It will run like crap if you don't know what you're doing. It will also run like crap if you just remove it. Why, interested in building a custom expansion chamber and trying it? I have a design for you if so. Uses the stock downpipe as a replacement for the muffler. Haven't had time to try building...

Fogging the cylinder, or putting in a tablespoon of oil and turning it by hand won't hurt either. I always do this on stored engines.

Sounds to me like your idle jet is still plugged. Do a search on "idle jet" for more info. You may need to clean it with a toothpick.

After you remove the exhaust, look for a welded-in washer in the muffler pipe near the exhaust port. Bashing out this restriction is good for some HP/speed (2-5 MPH). It was put in to regulate the HP to legal limits in some states.

Either patches or t-shirts, sign me up for 3 of each/either if someone's interested in following up on this.

Anyone else interested? Post a note here so that we can gauge the market.

Odd. Check these:
1) Is the foam filter in good condition (not crusted solid.)
2) Where is the needle valve set on the carb slide? I believe stock is one notch up from the bottom.
3) How's the plug and wire?

Low test is fine (87,) but since you only need 1/2 gallon, you could run premium. The only thing it will hurt is your wallet, and it's extra protection against detonation. I run premium in all my small engines, from the lawn mower to my CB900F. Only the car gets regular octane. Sounds like your scoo...

BTW, the correct airfilter is available at the Honda shop, preoiled, for $3-$4. Not worth you time even cobbling something up.

Do yourself a favor and find someone with a compression tester and check the compression yourself b/f you haul it into the repair shop for a ring job. It's a quick test that should clear things up for you.

Rebuild the top end? What top end? "Top end" to me involves valves, but it's a 2 stroke. He may be talking about decarbonizing the head. To do that you remove the head and clean it. Requires a new $5 head gasket from the Honda dealer. Mess with the carb first; you're due for decarbonizatio...

It's not adjustable. You may have a worn out shock absorber. I weigh the same and have noticed the same thing.

Is there a bolt up shock absorber that would work on this that is superior to the stock item? For example, would a shock absorber off a Elite 50 or 80 work?
