What happens when you answer a craigslist ad with no photo

After almost buying a PCX 150, I decided they are too big and heavy. I decided I wanted something smaller and so finally got on board with building up an SA50 to be faster. Dagnabbit.. all I was looking for was a junk late model SA50 to get an engine to build up into something and I answered a craig...

Re: 1987 Spree - no vacuum, same easy fix as on my 1986

One bad feature of the SB50 in my book is that the idle mixture is not meant to be adjustable. The air bleed screw is covered over, and I'd think that cleaning the idle circuit passages would be difficult. Fortunately, both of my SB50s seem to idle correctly and I never needed to clean that circuit ...

Re: What is this nipple?

Please get one of these kits, and fix it properly. The repair will be stronger than original, will be invisible and it will look like a professional worked on it instead of a rube: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Helicoil-Thread-Repair-Kit-M6x1-Metric-5546-6-NEW-/310782830654?hash=item485c19a83e:g:SGkAAOxyg...

Re: Missing part in brake hub

Maybe you are missing part #6 in the attached drawing? If so, your Honda powersports dealer can still get it for you.

Re: Where to get a jet kit for Spree NQ50?

All of the jets that were in original carbs that I have seen are stamped with the number on the side of the jet on the end of the jet that is up when the carb is upright.. in other words, the end without the screwdriver slot. Most replacement jets are also stamped in the same place, and the number m...

Re: Where to get a jet kit for Spree NQ50?

Start by reading the wikispreedia entry at: http://www.hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?title=Carb_-_Jet_Reference graphite9 usually has this kit, but I see they are out of stock now, but he can probably order you a set: http://www.scooterswapshop.com/products/jet-kit-for-oem-honda-carbs?variant=67756...

Re: Anyone have luck with an aftermarket bystarter?

Bad executive decision.. All you have to do is get a blow gun at Harbor Freight for $4 like the one referenced in the link below and wrap the end of it with a turn or two of masking tape to make a good seal. Then hold it against the hole in the carb intake referenced in the manual. Then see where th...

Re: What is this nipple?

If your float leaks, it will already have gasoline it in. You can just hold it up the light and see if there is any in there. Very rare to find a leaking float, IMHO. I think a piece of tightly rolled up paper towel soaked in carb cleaner is enough to clean the seat. Anyone else care to jump in and ...

Re: What is this nipple?

Yes, the plastic tab is all that pulls up the needle when the fuel level falls and that allows fuel to flow past the needle into the bowl. More correctly, it just lets the needle fall down or may slightly pull it down (when the carb is held upright.) More polishing of the seat, likely, or a new need...

Re: What is this nipple?

no.. the bowl gasket is a rubber O-ring shaped to fit the groove that runs around the joint between the bowl and the carb body. It rarely goes bad, and the float bowl is never supposed to get full enough to bring the gasket into play anyway. If fuel is coming out of either nipple, your float valve i...

Re: What is this nipple?

I believe the top nipple is the air vent nipple. If I am correct, it's function is to keep the air above the fuel in the bowl at atmospheric pressure. Without a vent, as fuel runs into the carb by gravity some fuel would be forced up the main jet and into the air stream coming through the venturi in...

Re: Anyone have luck with an aftermarket bystarter?

Unless you performed the bystarter test on page 4-4 in the Spree workshop manual, and the test reveals that your bystater is working correctly, I don't agree that you have eliminated one reason that your bike isn't healthy. I still think a 1985 Spree carb has a step in the bystarter chamber that kee...

Re: 1987 Spree - no vacuum, same easy fix as on my 1986

It makes up for it by being extremely slow off the line.. my 175 pounds are a bit too heavy for it.. starting on a hill is pretty tough.. I wondered why it was so much faster at top end than my Sprees and thought it was gearing because it was so slow off the line, but then when I look at the gear ch...

Re: 1987 Spree - no vacuum, same easy fix as on my 1986

Well this happened again to me last night, but not to a Spree. I was out cruising around on my 1988 SB50 Elite ES, and was coming home WOT on level ground at about 37 MPH, when the speed suddenly dropped to 33 MPH, I closed the throttle a bit, and decelerated to about 20 MPH, and then tried WOT agai...

Re: 1987 Spree Bogs at Full Throttle

With the bystarter installed in the carb, and the carb in your hand, what are the results of the bystarter test that is described on page 4-4 in the Spree workshop manual?
