Re: Good CVT Setups for 9:1 Gears/ZX on stock AF16 motor

What variator weights do you use on that scoot? I put the stock clutch and pulley back on this morning and it rides just like it did before, just a bit more sluggish off the line. With the stock clutch/pulley, at takeoff the RPMs climb a bit, then drop as the scoot starts to move, then climb back to...

Re: Good CVT Setups for 9:1 Gears/ZX on stock AF16 motor

I got the ZX to negate the low end loss from the 9:1 conversion. Maybe I don't need it? SSS shipped the new clutch already attached to the ZX pulley, and while I appreciate that they assembled it for me, the scientist in me cringes at testing so many variables (clutch, pulley, gears, belt) simultane...

Good CVT Setups for 9:1 Gears/ZX on stock AF16 motor

Hi Everyone, So after a long break and many (many) hours, I've got my '01 Elite painted and put back together with 9:1 gears and a ZX rear pulley. I'm using the Malossi belt and the KN Planning clutch that came in the ZX kit from SSS, with a Polini variator using the 6.9g weights that came with it, ...

Re: Best roller weights for trans upgrades

Also, I’ve read that for the kickstart to engage properly, I’ll need to shim out the front transmission cover that houses the kicker. What have you guys used to accomplish this?

Re: Best roller weights for trans upgrades

Where is it that I need to grind the case? I’m not planning on putting the rear clutch cover back on, so is it just that one spot above the bolt hole near the clutch on the bottom side?

Re: Chemical exhaust cleaning

So I've got the muffler off and ready to do this, but thought I'd weigh it first since I've seen people comment about the muffler "feeling lighter" after being cleaned. I weighed it by stepping on my bathroom scale, then again while holding the muffler and subtracting the two. I got a weig...

Re: Best roller weights for trans upgrades

A BBK is definitely in the cards, but will probably have to wait until spring. I’ll likely upgrade the carb, intake and pipe at the same time. If I can get close to 50 for now or even clear 45 I’ll take it!

Re: Carbon fiber reeds - new product

How frequently do you need to replace the reeds? My '01 Elite has about 5k on it...is it something I should be looking into?

Re: Best roller weights for trans upgrades

Thanks for the feedback. I checked and the roller weights are 6.9g, so within the range of yours. My motor has about 5k on it, but a freshly rebuilt carb, new spark plug, new OEM-type air filter (Bought from Noiseguy's ebay store), and I plan to chem-clean the muffler while I get the rest of the bik...

Best roller weights for trans upgrades

Hello Scooter Gurus, I’m running a Polini variator and going to install 16/42 final drive gears and a ZX transmission this week on my 2001 Elite. What roller weights have worked well for those of you with a similar setup? Right now it is a stock motor with just the Polini variator, and using the hea...

Aftermarket front turn signals

Hey all. So my outer handlebar cover is kind of a mess. Cracked in a couple spots and broken completely on the outer edges that cover the turn signals. I’m planning on repainting the thing anyway so I thought I might be able to cut the cover where the inside edge of the turn signals are, and find so...

Re: Front tire tilted toward left fork

I carried out my absurdly complicated method this afternoon and I'm happy to report that it worked! My initial measurements were off a bit, when I took some more precise ones using a caliper I actually only needed to move the fork by about 2.5mm, not the 5 or so mm I was thinking before. I assembled...

Re: Front tire tilted toward left fork

Thanks for the pic/measurement. The end of your axle looks different than mine (mine is threaded all the way out), but 5.5mm seems about right for the length protruding from the nut. I'll measure the exposed length and the spacer tomorrow if the weather holds. My theory, after a careful examination ...

Re: Front tire tilted toward left fork

Another "last" (but probably not) question to Elite owners: Does your front axle have any exposed threads after the axle nut is tightened to spec?
