If you don't want to restore the '87 because of the body condition it would be best to put the '87 engine on the '84 frame and use the '84 head.
If you doubt that the '87 engine works I would pull it apart and see what the cylinder looks like. The reeds should be interchangeable.

It is a '97 elite S. I have looked under the front cover to examine the key switch and taken the handlebars apart to examine the kill switch. Both look to be proper. Where the wiring harness splits up by the battery is a big mess and that is where I decided to quit. I was going to look at the wiring...

Elite will not shut off - key and kill switch not working
So I got (purchased) this Elite and rebuilt it. After the first start up I realize that I cannot shut it off with the kill switch or key. So my first thought was I hope it isn't stolen. Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone could explain to me where to start in the process of attempting to get one of the...

Can you explain the need for a high amount of oil in the fuel? Obviously I understand the basic concept of lubrication, but why do some people run a higher ratio (oil to fuel) than others? Is there a way to determine the right ratio? What are some of the benefits/downfalls or using more/less oil in ...

Proper break-in procedures?
Hello all, I just rebuilt a '97 elite S .25 over. It is running great. I just putted around on it, never full throttle. I'm running the injector and pre mix. I disconnected the oil line going from the pump to the carb and there was oil coming out very slowly so I'm assuming it is working properly. I...

How are you supposed to put the circlip openings in and what will happen if you don't do it a certain way (up, down, forward or backward). What prep needs to be done to a new piston before installation? I'm curious because I just rebuilt my '97 elite with a .25 over piston. What does everyone recomm...

I'm sorry, but what is effective stroke? I thought that the displacement was dependent on stroke and bore? I understand that by raising the cylinder and head you would be able to fit a larger crank. But I don't understand in your calculation of displacement why you decreased the stroke relative the ...
