Re: Base Gasket wont seal... Low compression

So I guess the question is how can I get the base to seal? Is there something else wrong? You might have 2 things that need attention: 1. new gasket needed, & 2. rings not sealing. If your jug is scored, the compression will stay low. It's real hard to start at 60psi, but possible. Better to ta...

90 is fine for a 48mm BBK. 87 might even work OK. Better rich than lean while you're sorting it out.

The Scorpion is for the smaller 72cc BBK. The 50mm (89cc) BBK will have a 34mm exhaust flange on the jug and the Scorpion won't fit. Measure everything carefully else you'll end up with a lot of stuff that doesn't fit.

Re: lost power at WOT

I was cruising down the road at maxed out speed. Probably 55mph on an ever so slight down grade. All of the sudden I lost power. I vote for soft seize, especially if you were running without an air filter, for example. It'll easily overheat to the point of seizing at 55mph downhill. If you had a CH...

Re: carb jets?

Any 50mm BBK will have a bigger exhaust pipe (~34mm), so your stock exhaust system won't fit any more. Bigger exhaust+bigger carb means your CHT will go through the roof, so watch that you don't totally incinerate your handiwork! You MUST go extra rich to start, otherwise you could melt your new pis...

Re: New carb and cold start problem

Bystarter carbs have to be started with the throttle CLOSED. With throttle open, the bystarter doesn't richen the mixture. Also, 2-strokes are hard to start if compression is low, so it's a good idea to check the compression. Above 80psi, it should start with minimum difficulty, but below 60psi you'...

Re: change connecting rods?

You have to ask yourself if it's worth all the fuss to rebuild. Last time I needed to major my Dio crank, I went on to ebay and found a brand new crank with rod & bearings all in one finished package for $29. It arrived in a few days, and then another day to check and install. It was from Taiwan...

Re: Keihin PB carb manual choke on ebay

I know this thread is a bit old, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth since some readers may still be looking for something that works. I got this 19mm Keihin from Taiwan for $39 and it has the standard electric bystarter choke and all the fittings match except for a couple of small mods needed. T...

It doesn't sound lean. More like the throttle slide isn't assembled correctly.

Re: Some advice please ? I think it's heat related

when i got it, it had no inner fender or heat covers on the engine or anything With the big carb, cone filter, etc it will be running VERY hot. It'll be worse without the plastic shroud around the cylinder since that's how the jug is cooled. If it seizes, the piston will likely melt on the sides an...

Re: My 2000 Elite SA50P quest for 45mph

My goal is 45mph without going the bbk route. To get to 45mph out of 50cc, you'll need about 12,000rpm with stock gears. A Scorpion exhaust and aftermarket carb/manifold will get you part way there. Your stock reed valve will eventually shatter at these revs, so change to a carbon-fibre type. NOTE:...

Re: Premix advice

On my 90cc, I mix 200ml oil in every 10 liters of gas in a gas can, but I keep the oil pump since it keeps everything lubed during deceleration (downhill for example). The oil pump is there for a reason. The total oil ratio, (premix +oil pump) is about 30:1. Buy a cheap CHT gauge while you're doing ...

This is a non-problem: Almost any m/c repair shop can make up a cable in a few minutes.

Sprees are popular as pit bikes with race car drivers. At 80lbs, it's possible to pick it up and put it in the back of a pickup unassisted. Yours is especially nice because it has a kick start as well as electric start (very rare).
