Re: Up Gearing / Right Gearing my UK spec Aero 50 aka Vision

Yep, point taken y'all! I do need to check where my variator belt is getting to & I'll do that next. It's a new belt & rollers (maybe 100 miles). The ramp plate as far as I can tell is not a restricted version although it does have 'UK' stamped on it. All I'm after is the 'stock' US speed wh...

Re: Up Gearing / Right Gearing my UK spec Aero 50 aka Vision

My UK pipe is somehow between the 2 pictures, there's a bulge at the end of the pipe but it's not so long as the unrestricted. I need & want to keep things looking standard on the outside so the exhaust has to stay. Gurtner jets are readily available here so I can get an #88 jet for not much mon...

Re: Up Gearing / Right Gearing my UK spec Aero 50 aka Vision

OK, so taking the higher number you're hitting 40 at 8000 rpm? Looking at this another way, I can't get to 8000 rpm on the flat, the exhaust has no restriction washer so maybe I need a bigger main jet? I think my main jet is #82, I read somewhere else on here that a #90 might be better. Any suggesti...

Re: Up Gearing / Right Gearing my UK spec Aero 50 aka Vision

Yes, it's still possible that my drive belt is not getting all the way to the top of the variator. What rpm do you get at 40mph?

Re: Up Gearing / Right Gearing my UK spec Aero 50 aka Vision

I take your point about the ratios, I was hoping to get about 37mph at about 7500rpm. I changed the belt & rollers earlier in the year, I also marked the variator but have not yet taken the covers of to look. If what I saw in another thread is correct & if I understood it correctly, 40MPH is...

Up Gearing / Right Gearing my UK spec Aero 50 aka Vision

I have an '85 UK Spec Honda Vision that will only do about 32 MPH that I'd like to get up to 40. The UK versions are classed as 'Mopeds' limited to 30 MPH. There are no restrictions in the exhaust or variator & the ramp plate is not restricted, so I think it's held back by the gearing which is a...

Re: Any way to fix Difficult Starting after a few days?

Seems that if I spin the starter for about 10 seconds then wait another 20-30 seconds before using the starter, my motor starts straight up. Must be something to do with the fuel finding it's way through the carb.

Looking for stock US AF05 Transmission Gears

I'm thinking about a winter project to replace my stock UK gearing with some stock US gearing. The transmission case has AF05 but there are some variations between the European & US versions so I'm not 100% sure that US gears would fit. From looking at the Wiki, the NB50 '85-87 ratios are 11.097...

Re: Any way to fix Difficult Starting after a few days?

I think the tilting causes gasoline to spill out of the float bowl into the intake pipe. I got the idea from the way an Amal carb works on an old Triumph motorcycle I had. On the side of an Amal carb, there is a button. When you push down on the button, the button forces the float down into the bow...

Re: Any way to fix Difficult Starting after a few days?

The carb is clean and I have a gel battery. Interesting idea, I'll give the tilt a try next time. I was wondering if something like a loop or U bend in the fuel pipe would help.

Any way to fix Difficult Starting after a few days?

My engine starts fine the next day after leaving overnight, but after a week it needs to be spun on the starter for about 30 seconds or maybe more. I'm guessing the fuel in the carb evaporates over time and then needs a while to refill, the vacuum petcock is probably there to stop the whole tank fro...

Re: Puegeot ST parts on an Aero 50

Looks like the same AF05 motor? There's one seller on ebay with good prices that accepts returns and if you buy with Paypal you can register for free returns. Failing that, you can ask them for dimensions of the various bits, I've posted the sizes of my ramp plate on here somewhere. Let us know how ...

Re: AF05E Ramp Plate Thrust Washer?

Thanks Meatball,

On that basis I guess my UK AF05 is probably the same as your AF05's. Next time I have the covers off I'll check for slack between the variator boss and the drive plate. For now I'll leave it all in place as it's almost certainly been that way for quite a few years now.

AF05E Ramp Plate Thrust Washer?

I've been looking in the NB50 Manual (closest I could find to my '85 UK Vision) and noticed that there's a thrust washer shown between the ramp plate and the crank shaft. I'm fairly certain that my engine didn't have one when I took the variator off, and am certain that there's not one now. Just won...

Re: UK Honda Vision NE50 MF - newbie performance advice soug

Well it's a typical English June & it's raining again today! Not much going on outside so I've been doing a bit of surfing on the forum and came across this thread, it shows various speed / rpm / gear ratios: http://www.hondaspree.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17752&hilit=tachometer+spe...
