Re: Farewell hondaspree

I have ignored most of the drama, so I probably don't know the extent of the BS, but I really hope you will reconsider and stay. Just ride this situation out, at some point the guy will grow tired of being himself and find a different target for his misplaced revenge. It's hard for me to imagine som...

Re: Seeking 1986 Honda Spree Restoration

There is a local guy ( Grand Rapids Michigan) who restores these frequently, he paints all plastic, addresses the fuel system, does upper end rebuild, replaces brake cables and tires if needed. He sells these Spree's for only $575, I dont know how he makes any money for so low a price. I am positive...

Re: Derestrict?

Both Wheelman and Pat speak the truth.
The lack of variator is the deal breaker here.
I discovered what you have found too, I love Spree's but sold them all and bought faster scooters.
I am looking to hit 85 with my latest project.

I have always been curious about the plumbing and pump, can I assume the pump is electric ? Do you have any pics to post ?

Re: Ever ridden a Grom?

We have a local group of about 30 or more Groms, they ride every Wednesday night, most of the riders are stunt riders who started out on the fiddys, moved to stunting big sport bikes, then all bought Groms for a change of pace. The Groms cost about $3200 and require about $2500 in upgrades to make t...

How many miles could you go with one gallon before you modified it ?

Re: 1986 spree

23,000 and climbing fast, I ride between 200 to 300 miles a week, weather permitting.
This thing is faster than the modified Groms.

Re: Pulling a gear?

You didnt say what year you have, usually helpful information, so I guessd a 1985. The puller that removes the starter gear is part number 07935-KG80000. Hope you have a friend at the local Honda Dealer who can smuggle it out for a night.

Re: 1986 spree

I really like riding Spree's, actually I think I love riding Spree's, I have done more than a dozen , that is bringing a barn find back to almost perfect condition. My boss has a scooter fleet of about 30 scoots now, I maintain his and mine. Got tired of only doing 34 MPH. After much thought about b...

Re: How is everyone washing or cleaning their scooters?

Johnniespeed uses Speedwax ( you should have seen that one coming ) made by Lucas and a microfiber towel. I think the Speedwax used to be called Slickmist.

Re: 1986 spree

Some stock Sprees only go 28, most do 30-32. The sticker on the body says max weight is 180 lbs. perhaps you should recheck the speed with a lighter rider to see if it is at a normal speed. I don't even know you and I'm cracking wise already. LOL. Sprees only have one speed, they don't have a variat...

Re: Honda Gyro X score. Need a piston!

I used a Spree piston in my 84 Gyro, if I remember correctly I think I used an actual Honda OEM 1986 piston, that was 0.020" over ( 0.5 mm) got it from CMS in Netherlands. link http://www.cmsnl.com/honda_model8286/ Metric Motorsports in Muskegon does an excellent job of boring cylinders, cheap ...

Re: No high speed run

The "one way valve / diaphram in the fuel system " , if you are talking about the valve that is attached to the bottom of the fuel tank, it is commonly called a petcock. It is a fuel shut off, what it does is to shut off the fuel to the carb when the engine is not running. When you start t...

Re: New CDIs

If you click the link and read the text, I have explained the differences. Once you read it , you will know what I found. It would be wonderful if someone made a device that you could plug a CDI box into and read the timing map, maybe even print out the data. But as far as I know there is no such th...
