Re: 87 Elite Battery suggestions
Yes, basically. To really assess it you need to disconnect at the rear brake. Cable should glide freely, almost zero friction (which new cables have.) If it works, don't mess with it, just something to watch. Remembering they are sort of a pain to replace as you have to thread them through the frame...

Re: 87 Elite Battery suggestions
On the rear brake, make sure the cable is working freely. If it's sticky, consider replacing it. Much better braking force that way.

Re: '85 Spree randomly died
They're definitely different left and right, but for some reason I thought there was a different crankshaft by year. I may be confusing it with the Elites of same era... or wristpins? It's embarrassing how long it's been since I've owned or worked on one.

Re: '85 Spree randomly died
There's two different sizes used, right? IIRC the early Spree used a smaller size than later. Or there was some other difference in the case... I'll have to look through the parts catalog.

Re: '85 Spree randomly died
First of all, if a seal blew out, it was only one, and typically, it is the left one which is the easiest one to change. The seal is still available from your Honda dealer, or you can just push the old seal back into place if you want to use your old one. The part number is 91201-GK8-003 OIL SEAL (...

Re: '85 Spree randomly died
+1. I'd just do the compression test now, especially since the bike won't start. Then start looking for air leaks, including those crank seals.Wheelman-111 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 9:50 amThe assertion that the scooter got faster, briefly, before dying supports the hypothesis that a vacuum leak formed.

What's the air filter look like on the bike? The original has to be shot by now. They gum up and get into the carb if you don't replace them.

Re: 1985 Spree Oil Problem?
You can and should check the oil pump function. The check is in the manual. At idle it will be kicking out a drop or so every 5 seconds.
If it's not doing that, run 50:1 premix.

Re: Member Check-In thread
The board covers bikes last built 20 years ago. And I think we've covered every question that could be answered in that time. Traffic peaked in 2013 or so, right up until FB and YT absorbed all net traffic. We could cover the more recent 4T models, and include Ruckus since TotalRuckus imploded. But ...

Re: Towing a 2007 Honda Elite
I'd get one of those hitch trays that they sell and haul it with that. Elites weigh about 300 lbs; most of them are rated for 500lbs+ on a class III hitch.
Assuming you have a class III and not a class I or something small. If so... you'd need a small trailer.
