Re: New build idea

Mike that 71 Bird is just begging for a CR125 engine. I find mini bike frames without engines go quite cheap on this side of the state, watch garage sales, flea markets and CL. Usually $40-$75 with seat, tires, without engine. Its the cost of the twist throttle, chain and centrifugal clutch that sta...

Re: 85 Spree bogged down

If you have a dirty/rusty fuel tank, the carb cleaning will be a perpetual ritual. The fuel filter screen is located on the petcock inlet inside the tank, remove petcock to clean screen. The carb needs to be spotless and the bystarter needs to function. There are small orifices and hidden passageway...

Re: Gas mileage

Of all the Spree's I've owned and ridden, I have never checked the mileage. On any of my scooters, I have never driven more than 200 miles in one day. On my Elite 150 it gets 85 miles per gallon and tops out at 64 MPH, no wind no windshield. On my Elite 250 it gets 66 miles per gallon and tops out a...

Re: Malossi Cylinder Salvage

That third picture shows a good sized chunk missing from the cylinder , the second picture shows a tiny chip missing. I wonder how far that crack extends, did you magnaflux to see if the crack continues ? I realize that the piston doesn't use that spot as thrust support, and that the rings don't con...

Re: Still can't get my new 1986 Spree running

There are four guys in a large town near me who part out Spree's, so there is an abundance of Spree parts locally, also quite a few show up on Craigslist, but ever since that show "Pickers" and " Storage wars", everyone now thinks their junk is gold. I think you should be able to...

Re: Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohola Skyway

Despite your blown engines, I know why you go back to the Dragon.

I plan to go back and I live 12 hours from it.

Cant say enough good about Fontana village resort, join the Dragonslayers club and presto... cheap stay.

Fontana dam is rich with history, played a big part in WW2.

Re: Still can't get my new 1986 Spree running

While I have not actually done it, there is a way to pressurized the engine to check for leaks, the dirt bike guys do this. They bolt a plate with gasket where the carb goes, they bolt a plate with gasket where the pipe goes, then they pressurize the crankcase and watch the pressure gauge for loss. ...

Re: Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohola Skyway

Yeah I had a great time on the Dragon, Moonshiner 28 and on the Cherohala. You are fortunate to live so close, I drove 12 hours to get your neighborhood. My photos were on all the three photo sites. Isn't there a Harley shop by the Dragon and another on the West side of the Cherohala loop ? That Kat...

Has anyone here ridden the " Three Sisters" also known as " Twisted Sisters" in Texas ??

While I dont know what pipe that is, perhaps knowing the year , make , CC's and model of scooter will help the experts here. Did you know the Grand Rapids Scooter club rides on Thursday nights ? They meet at Kava House on Lake drive about 6PM, then kickstands up at Six Thirty for a 30-50 mile ride, ...

Re: New build idea

MInibike frames pop up for sale in the Grand Rapids area quite a bit, usually on Craigslist or flea markets, sometimes garage sales. Usually what stops the average persons project of sticking a snowblower engine on a minibike frame is the cost of clutch, chain, throttle controls, then the frame beco...

Re: Gyro - general thread

I did a little checking on the filter foam measurement and found my stash, the Twin Air foam I use is 10mm thick and orange. I think we bought it out of England. I am running that on four Motocompo's and two Gyro's seems to function just fine. I use a hydraulic table from Harbor Frieght for all my s...
