Re: Need some help getting a 86 Spree running

I just had what sounded like the same problem - engine would start and idle but die with throttle. My bystarter was stuck open. I took it apart and turned the spring around to keep it closed and disconnected the power to it. Fixed! Runs like a top! Starts first kick everytime and edge up just fine....

Re: Quick question about Piston Stopper

Hello
Tusk has a clutch holding tool that works great for holding clutches, drive pulleys, and lots of other stuff!! It's a handy tool!! Amazon has one for about $17. Also makes assembly torquing easier

Honda Spree main jet

Hello I just received a 1986 Spree carb from ebay and immediately started the rebuild process. Taking out the main jet, I noticed that it was a #65. This really didn't surprise me, because I have 9 other Spree carbs and all have #65 main jets (none of them are Iowa models). Now.....according to Hond...

Honda Spree bystarter rebuild

Hello.
With spring getting closer, I've been getting Spree carbs ready. I have a few bystarters that I combined parts from to come up with usable units. When taking them apart, I forgot (feeling stupid) to note the air valve and needle measurements(cold). Anyone have those specs?
Thanks

ultrasonic carb cleaners

It's getting hard to function in my garage due to the number of Sprees and Spree parts :) It's a sickness!! Carb issues seem to be the #1 problem of early hair loss!! I've used ZEP carb spray (best so far), Gunk gallon dip tank, and tried boiling. Anybody have any input on ultrasonic carb cleaners??...

Re: Our friend Bear 45-70

I was wondering why there hasn't been any " Bear inputs" lately.....I look forward to your posts!!! No candy coating on them! Being an old fart myself, I know healing takes a little longer. Take care, get well, and have a great Christmas!!

Re: Starter / Engine Problem ?

I had the same starter problem with a 1984 Spree. The previous owner tried using a 1986 starter with the 1984 bendix. 1984/1985 starters have 10 splines on the starter and 65 teeth on the bendix. 1986/1987 starters have 11 splines on the starter and 63 teeth on the bendix. If you interchange them, t...

Re: carburetor stripped. 1986 spree

I tried going to a 7mm bolt on one of my Sprees. One problem is that the hex head on the bolt is too big to get a socket on. That's on the inside bolt.

Re: 86, 87 spree crankcase/crankshaft binding

Thanks for your reply! I have a Tusk crank puller and used it for the project. I used my shop press to remove the crank, and both times used the Tusk to install crank. The last time , I got it close, then tried bringing the cases together by alternating tightening the 5 case bolts. Same result both ...

86, 87 spree crankcase/crankshaft binding

I'm rebuilding a 1987 Spree engine and when I tighten the right and left hand crankcase halves together, the crank won't turn. I'm not even close to torque specs when it binds up. I made a gasket from gasket material that seems to be the same thickness as OEM. I've tried two different cranks....same...

Re: 1987 Sprees

Thanks mousewheels,
There is a difference between 86 and 87, but not as much as the 84/85s. Maybe I'm just asking too much for a 49cc motor to haul my petite 240 lb butt around.

1987 Sprees

Hello Somehow, in the past couple years 7 Sprees have found there way to my garage (it's a sickness)!! The posts on this site have been fantastic in helping me figure things out!! I've been on 4 stroke bikes for over 45 years and these 2 stroke things sometimes drive me nuts. Anyway.... Why is it th...
