Re: Suzuki / Morini 50cc engine noise

OK, following Meat's suggestions I took off the variator & the magneto flywheel / stator yesterday. With the flywheel back on minus the stator & no drag from the coils / magnets & drive belt it's quite easy to feel some movement on the crank without any movement on the piston. The piston...

Re: Suzuki / Morini 50cc engine noise

Thanks for the ideas Meat, will check them out. Yeah, it could also be normal but it's really annoying & bordering on embarrassing! Something happened today that may be the cause, or may be yet another rattle in addition to the first.. I decided that 100+ miles was enough for things to bed in, s...

Suzuki / Morini 50cc engine noise

When I took my '97 AE 50 for it's UK MoT test the tester told me the crank bearings had gone and were in danger of collapse so I replaced them. Now the bearings are quiet but there's a rattle somewhere else in the motor that I can't track down. I've changed the small end bearing and can't find any m...

Re: '85 Spree, first start in 20+ Years.

There's a good chance that the crank bearings will have gummed up. If you've not already done so, drain & change the oil that's in the tank before running the engine again. May even be worth putting a small amount of straight 2 stroke oil into the crank case via the inlet manifold while you have...

Interesting speed calculator! Please can you share a link to it?

Re: Oreilly loaner tools to rebuild engine case

OK, all done. Thanks again for all the tips. Heating the cases and freezing the bearings certainly helped, the crank was a lot smaller than I had imagined so went into the freezer no problem. The variator side just dropped in & I used some large washers to pull the crank through the other side a...

Re: There's a hole in my header!

My AE 50 scoot passed the MoT with no issues, zero comments about smoke but he did tell me that the crank bearings were toast.. I'd always assumed the noise was just normal but he assured me that it was not. So, after reading some helpful stuff on here about crankcase splitting and bearing replaceme...

Re: Oreilly loaner tools to rebuild engine case

Freezing the crank first helps installation even with the tool. I had to drive a partially assembled bottom end back apart and re-do it when the Tusk tool wouldn't pull the crank and half completely together. Cold + oil helped a lot. OK, guess I'll just have to eat as much food from the freezer as ...

Re: Oreilly loaner tools to rebuild engine case

A quick word of thanks to the people who posted on this thread and their mention of the WiKi article: http://hondaspree.net/wiki/index.php5?title=Crankcase_Splitting/Reassembly Interestingly the Tusk puller instructions also mention the heating & freezer method in case their tool won't work on b...

Re: DIO Gearing

I think you may have answered my question with "Stock gears are best for stock motors". I'm interested in people's experiences with alternate gearing for the stock 50cc AF18 motor.

DIO Gearing

Anyone changed their stock engine DIO gearing for more top speed? If so, what did you change to & did it work?

Thanks

Up Gearing my AE50 from 12.8:1 -> 9.8:1?

Hi, I wondered if anyone has some thoughts on the advisability of upgearing to the following ratios with a stock, de-restricted motor? AFAIK there's a Polini up gearing option on the secondary driven gears from 41/11 (standard) to 40/14 (Polini). If my calculations are correct, this will raise the o...

Re: 1985 Honda spree clutch question

When you say 'the wheel spins' do you mean when the wheel is off the ground on the stand? If so, does the engine slow down if you put the back brake on? I'm thinking that maybe the shoes can wear in a little?
