Test the stator. It may need rewound.

Wet with fuel or oil? Could be too much assembly lube fouling your plug.

X2, needs to be the compression stroke. Valves have an acceptable range( usually 2 to 4 thousands), no need to argue on one spec.

Mine never had a backing plate while I owned it. Ran fine but I have no comparison for you.
