Jerry, Does aircraft stripper work on plastic? I know it does on aluminum. I hate strippers. You never get all of it off, and it eat the new paintjob. Rattlecan paint is pretty soft; I'd plan on sanding the whole thing down with 400 grit wet dry, with water, to remove it. Follow with 600 grit. Then ...

Find someone local that works on cars/bikes and borrow it/them. They should be able to show you how. Otherwise most autoparts places sell them for around $30.

I'd recheck your idle jet, as Jerry suggested. Most of the running problems seem to be carb related on this bike.

Seems like these carb cleanings need to be done repeatedly. Are people just running with rusty tanks and replugging up their carbs?

Maybe he could get some short skis to wear on his feet as outriggers and just use the Spree for propulsion.

If the oil is really nasty, you'll want to flush and fill this several times. Might want to wait until you're low/out of gas, you have to tip the scooter nearly horizontal to get it all out.

Like Jerry said.

You'd set the carb screws based on the year of the carb, not the year of the scooter, if they're different vintage.

Check your compression, should be between 100 - 120 PSI. At that milage you may need new rings.

I'm still playing with the Iowa. I bought another intake runner (carb to reed valve) to re-port that part. If you look on the side that the carb attaches to, the inlet jumps down from the 17mm dia to a much smaller throat. In my mind, you want a nice, even expansion of the inlet after the carb's cho...

BTW, as for adding "lake pipes" to your Spree, funny idea, won't work unless your cutoff pipes are the right length, and choked. Remember, this is a 2-stroke, so the pressure conditions at the exhaust port are critical. There's no valve to close off the port. The Spree shouldn't run very w...

The pipe need to be the right length, and needs to choke at the end to a smaller pipe. It's not static backpressure that it needs as much as the right length so that acoustic waves hit the end of the pipe and bounce back at the right frequency, "plugging" the exhaust port with a pressure w...

Just b/c the engine will ying up on the stand doesn't mean it will do it under load. For some reason you're not getting generating any torque. For the clutch to be out the engine should be screaming, and the scooter not moving. Either way you'll have a good part soon to check. Why is your clutch oil...

If oil is dribbling out, it's working. It's more of an ooze than a squirt.

If you're nervous about running the engine with no oil, you could put in some premix in the fuel tank, although I have no idea what the ratio would be (32:1?) Dump it once the pump primes up and refill with clean gas.

... is oil dribbling out the outlet hose, or out the bottom of the pump? If oil is dribbling out of the bottom of the pump, at the gear input, that would be filling your lower chamber with oil, which would then get pumped up top. That would also explain why it's cranking hard; the piston is trying t...

If that clutch is slipping, it should be getting really hot. You might try running the scoot around for 10-15 min or so at WOT, then quickly pull the LHS cover. If the clutch is slipping the outer ring should be noticably hot (sizzle.)
