1987 Aero: I Got Yer Reah Center Panel Right Heah!

Greetings: Scooterwerx gave me the idea but his custom stern omitted the taillight and license plate illumination in favor of a cleaned-up sleek look. I modified his design to retain legality. I'm quirky that way. http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/9318/aeroctrpnlnv5.jpg http://img511.imageshack.us/...

Wintry Lean Times

Greetings: Sorry, I just don't buy the winter lean thing. Denser air is being sucked through the venturi, to be sure. However that will have the effect of increasing the pressure gradient at the fuel inlets as well. Fluid dynamics are hard to predict, but the net result should be a higher fuel draw ...

Bore & Stroke

Greetings:

To get 100cc with a 51 mm bore, you would need a 49mm stroke.

Just plug the numbers into your calculator:

R squared x pi x Stroke= cylinder volume.

51/2 = 25.5
25.5 x 25.5 x 3.1416 x 49 = 100

It's 'rithmetical. Not hard to do.

Housebreaking a Tomos

Greetings: Ah, scooter repairs in the living room. This is a topic about which I've gained considerable experience of late. Begin with an honest assessment of said housemates. If they are family, they will learn to tolerate your eccentricities. If they are friends, it will be a test of the level of ...

Carryon Luggage

Greetings: Both slow learner and suffering from CRSS. The hip bursitis from the first attempt was resolved in under two days, and so wasn't retained in my long-term memory. But I gotta say working in the carpeted comfort of the apartment beats the snot out of squatting in the parking lot. I just rea...

Aero Elevator

Greetings: Yes, I have carried the intact Aero up the eighteen - count 'em! - 18 stairs twice now. Hurt myself both times. The last two times, I have dropped the engine first, taking it up in two trips. I highly recommend the second method. I can now get the engine off in under 45 minutes, including...

Underpinnings

Greetings:

So basically the weight is in a thicker-spec frame, axles and whatnot to manage the additional stresses from a design meant for a 100cc powertrain?

Porky 2-Stroke

Greetings: Just surfing the Yamaha site. The Tuning Fork Company brought back the beloved 2-Stroke Zuma last year. Evidently (c)lean-running + a Catalyst exhaust made it able to pass emissions testing. It's the only 2-Stroke vehicle currently EPA approved AFAIK. But what's up with the weight? They l...

Size Matters! Cylinder Volume

Greetings: The Bear is exactly right. I would add that the engine displacement cannot be calculated unless you know the STROKE Of your engine as well as its BORE size. The later Aero models for example had the same stock dimensions as the Spree he described: stock bore of 41 mm.x a relatively short ...

Vacuum Valve Variation

Greetings: The 1985 Aero valve has a different size and thread pattern from that of the '87. I suspect the same applies to different Spree model years. If you check with Honda you can confirm when the part number changed. I cleaned my old one up well enough to re-use - it's the larger size. Soak in ...

Metropolitan 50 Performance Tuning Article

Greetings: My brother has a Metro - I believe it's a 2006. I have tried to dissuade him from this 4-stroke madness and lead him to the Light of the One True 2-Stroke Faith, but he resists. But he's my brother and I have to help and support him. I had a link to an article about de-restrcting Metro/Ja...

8Ike Night at Snapka's

Greetings: One Friday a month a classic 50s drive-in restaurant called Snapka's in Corpus Christi hosts a bike night. It's an event where you can go look at freshly polished eye candy. Mostly Harleys and choppers but a smattering of everything else - V-8 Boss Hosses, vintage Brit stuff, a few pre-wa...

Relay

Greetings:

Stock Honda horn appears to operate right off the switch. The switch couldn't handle the HD Horn, as stated. I ADDED the relay and wired it as described and (sort of) shown. Read the post.

Carbon Fiber Reeds

Greetings:

Do cf reeds help midrange as much as top end power?

Being lighter, I presume they open and close faster. How much Jet Tuning is needed after installation?
