Re: 2000 Elite S Build - "Mr. Grey"

Did another test run. It's definitely running cooler, but not as cool as I'd like. Changed three things: reseated cylinder with copper gasket spray, changed to BR9HIX plug, added air scoop. I can still bring it up to 370F with WOT for awhile, but this is the first time I've been able to hold WOT thr...

Re: 72cc Stock Setup Concerns

Yea I think I'm going to build a positive pressure setup. I just noticed I have a small exhaust leak at the header. It wasn't there before but I've been pulling it apart a few times. I have been considering a mild pipe. Like a Wildlion, SEF Black, or a Technigas. PGs are good values but too loud for...

Re: 72cc Stock Setup Concerns

I totally agree with you, however I really need to keep the noise down on this bike and the stock carb with airbox keeps it pretty silent. Maybe this just means I need a second bike. I had a Spree with BBK but it just didn't have the guts to make it up my hills, so sold it. I'm considering looking f...

Re: 72cc Stock Setup Concerns

Yes, I'm fairly sure the high temps at partial throttle, especially deceleration, is because the pilot in the stock carbs are too small for our bigger bore, better breathing setups. I don't see much we can do about that other than (attempting to) drilling out the pilot or swapping to a larger carb w...

What kind of LED bulbs are as bright/brighter than the normal filament type? I tried a couple LEDs a long while ago and was disappointed with their output.

Re: 2000 Elite S Build - "Mr. Grey"

I recently did a plumbing job and the general technique for pipe fitting is tight + one good wrench grunt. Well, to get my 1.25" brass fittings to finally seal and not leak, it needed RectorSeal No. 5 sealant, tight + 5 blood-vessel popping, hernia inducing wrench grunts. I always wondered how ...

Re: 2000 Elite S Build - "Mr. Grey"

Got everything back together. Man 10 ft-lb is light. I've been way over cranking everything. Clean and sprayed the base gasket with copper gasket sealer: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/NeZnxbcokl7iIE6AKCnslG4HrFFdYc1979wTHMyeIw8=w1066-h851-no Installed the air scoop from Graphite by cutting away ...

Re: Bumps Cause Spree to Nearly Stall

My 85 Spree used to actually die if I went down a steep hill with a little brake applied.

Re: What do the numbers on contra/torque springs mean?

That makes sense. I did something similar but didn't know the RPM numbers. I tune to how it feels depending on the type of roads/usage. I lived in a place with a couple of long steep hills at speeds that pretty much needed WOT to stay with traffic, so the bike was tuned for max HP at WOT just for th...

Re: 72cc Stock Setup Concerns

I haven't used sealants in a long time and normally don't use them in general unless I need a quick fix on an otherwise tough fix. But, if I have a suspect leak, might as well try a spray which is easy to use. I've just used spray like spray paint on both sides of the gasket. This is what I do but o...

Re: 19mm Keihin PB Carburetor w/bystarter INFO

NICE! Dude, awesome work. A larger, pilot adjustable carb that can run a quiet airbox is exactly what I was hoping existed.

What were the mods you had to do? How does it line up with the airbox?

Re: What do the numbers on contra/torque springs mean?

I thought the Malossi iron doesn't make much power past 9k? In an ideal situation, don't you want to peg the shift RPM at the upper end but inside the power band (max HP)? I think what you're saying is it's better (though counterintuitive) to have the shift RPM higher than max HP RPM, and use partia...
