Roger That: SE50 Running Gear
Greetings: You are correct about the splined SE50 hardware. It is still astonishing to me that a torque-transmitting shaft relies on friction alone to hold a gear on a shaft. Obviously it works, but I can't understand how. Even splines can fail and spin. I wish the SA50 mods were available to mine, ...

Squeeze, Don't Shove: Another Way to Gear Up
Greetings: Malossi gears on the way, I decided to get ready for dismounting early this rainy week. Gears reportedly fit tight on their shafts, needing pullers to disassemble. TOOL OPPORTUNITY! Went to Harbor Freight for a look around. Found this: http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5473/pullsetfg5.jp...

Condensation Frustration
Greetings:
Sorry to say you're right. If the midline case gasket is gone, life will suck. But they can't both be screwed, can they? Maybe make one a parts bike? You can only ride one at a time
I hope things work out for you. I'm very jealous, actually.
Don't drink '67 Camaro water!

New Needle Still Leaky
Greetings:
The needle was new. The carb casting had no provision for seat replacement, and the metal was rough and gritty, making a good seal nigh-impossible. See "Minty-Fresh".

And Flash's Breath Is Minty-Fresh!
Greetings: Honda-san sternly admonishes to "replace the float needle and seat 'as a set'...". Huh? The "seat" is the gritty aluminum carb casting! I used a sage Forum member's advice and tested the seal by lifting the float while blowing into the fuel fitting. It leaked unless I ...

Bottom End Leaking? Huh?
Greetings:
Do you mean the seals at the ends of the crankshaft? Still not clear to me how that gets water into the tranny, which should be a chamber separate from the crankcase.

New Vacuum Petcock Flows Fuel Freely
Greetings: Another Life Lesson Learned. Check stuff - even new stuff - before installing. Had I done so, I would have found that I could freely suck air from the fuel outlet of this shiny-new $55.95 petcock. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7376/newpetcockis1.jpg http://img265.imageshack.us/img265...

Oil In Transmission: How?
Greetings: I forgot to axe you how you figure the water got in the tranny? If it hasn't been in there TOO long, maybe you can just run it a while. Hot cases will boil the water right out if it has a way to vent - just leave the filler off? Then change the oil again and assess its content. Big Chunks...

F11 250
Greetings: I got to ride one when it was nearly new. The 250 was the last piston-port offroad model. Kawasaki was in a headlong rush to convert everything to rotary-valves. At the time, they thought they could make 2-Strokes clean enough to satisfy the EPA Nannies. Sadly EFI & the means to do so...

Triumphs and Tribulations
Greetings: He could sell tickets to his startup ritual. It's performed like a Japanese tea ceremony. Key on, kill switch, tickle the dual Amals until a drop or two appears, deploy kickstart pedal. One or two kicks - I've never seen more. Va-ROOOM! a-ba-DEE-a-ba-DEE . Then on goes the skid lid, glove...

Funny stuff. A pal of mine still rides a Rat 1968 Bonneville - he bought it new - almost every day. Of course it doesn't hurt that he's retired from a career as a motorcycle mechanic... Not much he doesn't know about old Triumphs.

No Itty-Bitty O-Ring at the Float Needle
Greetings: Despite the Service Manual's admonishment to "change the float needle and seat as a set...", Neil the Parts Guy could find nothing resembling a float needle seat in his carburetor diagrams. I may visit my local O-Rings R Us store to see if I can find one suitably small and solve...
