Re: Official NS50F thread

Greetings:

So scarce are these, but if one of either model ever comes up within striking distance, I'm DOWN! But does anyone else find it curious that the MB5 went back to drum brakes? *?

Re: Variator travel

Greetings: Your Sharpie marks appear to show you're getting almost all you can as it is. I know, I know you're still a couple of mm from the ragged edge. Try this: Remove the variator and belt. Put the belt in the variator on the workbench and close the sheaves all the way. Now see where the belt si...

Re: Rear Axle Torque Value for 1985 Honda Spree

Greetings:

Specs are in the FSM available on this board in that section. SA50 is around 60 Ft.-Lbs, likely the same on the Spree. A dab of Blue Loctite and 50 should be fine.

Re: 2009 honda no start metropalition gas to floatbowl but no fuel to cylinder

Greetings:

If there's fuel in the float bowl, a petcock problem seems much less likely. Check engine compression. Check for spark while you're at it. These engines do need the valves adjusted once in a while and it's such a PITA that a lot of owners just watch the engine slowly lose power and die.

Re: AF16- Recommendations for aftermarket brake pads?

Greetings: I had swapped for Malossi pads front and rear on Flash 7. I found them really grabby and a bit noisy. I eventually put the Honda stock pads back on the front, but I kept the Malossis astern. They do seem to brake harder with less lever effort, but the downside is a lockup in a panic stop ...

Re: 86 Spree 50 Won't start when hot

Greetings: Quoth Woodsie: I have noticed on the seal on the outside of the reed cage, theres air coming out from one part of it. We have our heading. Disassemble once you find/make a new gasket. This has to be clean, clean, Clean. Reassemble with new gasked and double check for no air in/out. Can't ...

Greetings:

A two stroke engine that's not getting enough oil sounds like ... silence.
If it runs, it's getting enough oil.

YMMV

Re: Harder Gear for a faster 1985 Honda Spree

Greetings: 1. The pulley will not hurt the engine in any way, and your top speed should improve, but... 2. Read the ad carefully. It says everything you need to know. Swap-Shop folks are straight shooters. 3. Except for a very rare different Final Drive set, no. 4. If you don't mind Flintstoning a l...

Re: Spree gas tank thread size for fuel petcock 1985

Greetings: This change in thread diameter was not limited to the Spree, either. When I bought my 1987 Aero from a friend, he had ordered a new petcock, but dag-nabbit, it wouldn't fit. It was for the 1985 Aero, which had the same 14mm nipple as Mouse describes for the Spree. I'm guessing the '87 Eli...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Greetings: Presuming your temp sender is a 14mm under the spark plug, 300F. is definitely NOT a problem. It might even indicate your mixture is a bit rich, if anything, so you're leaving some power on the table. 350 or so is ideal, 380 indicates caution, and 400 is really risky. What does the spark ...

Re: Main jet recomendations?

Greetings:

Stock is 68? Go up a size at least if you're not running the stock airbox. Your bigger problem will be the Idle circuit. "Jet size" is pre-determined by whoever drilled the carb at the factory and cannot easily be upsized.

Re: left brake lowers idle speed at rest

Greetings:

Honda specs are 1800 for idle speed on AF series 2-strokes. Check your rear pulley bearings - the ones that let the driven pulley free-wheel on the clutch shaft. If they're "sticky" it might cause the symptom you describe on the center stand.

Re: fuel vacuum line

Greetings; It doesn't say where you live, but I'll bet it's hot! Carb is tiny, bowl vent allows for some evaporation, and gets to a point where the Jets can't suck enough fuel for combustion. The various lines that cover the vents on a new scooter help a bit, but I have them and have the same issue ...

Pretty sure side-marker lamps were made mandatory in 1968, making the Avanti at least that "new".
