Re: New addition, Gyro
I saw bakaracer suggested a 240 grit on another thread to get the glazing off. Next question, I see bike bandit still has the cylinder head gasket, but not the base gasket. Can I make one out of that paper gasket stuff?

If i were to buy a flex hone, what grit should I get? And by 45 degree cross hatch, do you mean honing in forward and then honing in reverse?

Re: New addition, Gyro
I disconnected the gas tank, pulled the carb cleaned it, didn't find anything particularly dirty in there. looked like it was just cleaned. I used a new spark plug and checked, it was sparking blue. I put it back together and used some fresh gas connected to a tube and a syringe to feed the carb. I ...

Re: New addition, Gyro
Another question. I didn't notice a vacuum line going to the gas tank. I looked on the wikispredia and found this" Remove the fuel line going into the carb.. turn the gas on.. does fuel flow freely out the gas line?.. No?.. You may have a vacuum operated petcock (if you do there will be another...

The previous owner screwed with the idle and air screw. I know the air should be about 2.25 turns out, but any idea on the idle screw?

Re: New addition, Gyro
Thanks man, i'll try squirting some oil in it tomorrow and retest the compression. If its still bad i'll pull the cyl head off and snap some pics. How does one test the crank seals to see if those are leaking?

Re: New addition, Gyro
Well i took the coil off of an elite i had, wouldn't start, checked, no spark. Ohm tested the plug cap to coil, nothing. Grabbed another coil from my known running elite and it was sparking, yay! Tried starting over and over, drained carb bowl, disconnected the gas tank, used starting fluid it start...

Re: New addition, Gyro
I read on the google that some windings have a protective varnish layer that brake cleaner and other solvents can screw with. I decided to just use an old tooth brush with no water and scrub the heck out of it. I also scrubbed behind the stator and the flywheel area to get as much of that crap off a...

Re: New addition, Gyro
I think this might have something to do with the poor readings. What can I spray onto the stator to clean all that stuff off? I don't want to hurt anything of course, but if it just a bunch of wire coils Im thinking brake cleaner or carb cleaner should be fine. I took the stator off and took the scr...

Re: New addition, Gyro
Cool, I just bought a spree coil from another member to get me up and running for further tests. To test the exciter coil, I'm just suppose to test its ohms from the bl/r wire and a ground right? I'm going to spray some deoxit on the connections, hoping it was just a * connection. I bet you can't e...

Re: Gyro - general thread
You gyro gurus know if the 84' front brake cable and speedometer cable work on a 86'? I know different body styles, but thought i'd ask. Mousewheels told me the SA50 front brake cable works, but is 2" long.
