Greetings: Thanks for the reply. The replacement is a Honda part - complete with invoice from the distribution warehouse, but definitely a smaller diameter, which would explain why the filter installation is not self-explanatory. I have to figure out what to do about the resin sludge in the tank bef...

Fuel Strainer Petcock Assembly Question - 1987 Aero
Greetings: Old Pal Hal sold me this scooter with a complete carb rebuild kit and a new Old Stock vacuum fuel valve. The valve kit has a cyliindrical plastic strainer enclosed in its Honda shipping box but not fitted to the valve. The strainer is closed at one end, and open at the other end. The clos...

Treating Tank Rust
Greetings:
True Conoisseurs prefer RC Cola.
I found the fuel level sender unit at a Genuine Soichiro Honda dealership: New Old Stock - $55. They no longer have the tank but a local Scooter Guru might be able to find one. I hate, Hate, HATE fuel tank cleaning.

Starting 1987 Aero Restoration, Much Work to Be Done
Greetings: Picked up the scooter yesterday. This will be challenging. It had not run since at least 2001. The tank has its fuel cap, but tape covers the level sensor hole. The contents smell like the pit of a run-down Lube Shop. Not a solid, exactly, but also not liquid. I presume the same material ...

Plugz
Greetings:
Thanks for recommending the BPR8 HS (hotter) plug. In fact I purchased a BPR 6 over the weekend before I got back to the Forum and its Collective Wisdom. I will break it in with the 6 keeping mindful not to flog it until I can get back to the Honda store and get the 8.

To assess the Idle port in the carb, where do you hold the light (in a dark room) and where do you sight? Pictures appreciated. Thanks.

Recommended 1985 Aero Plugs
Greetings:
The Service Manual lists the following plugs for the 1985 Aero:
NGK:
Standard = BPR6 HSA or BPR6 HS
Cold Weather= BPR4"
Extended Hi-Speed = BPR8'
ND
Std = W20FPR or W20FPR-L
Cold= W14FPR or +L
HiSpd= W24FPR or +L
Is anyone able to say if the specs for an '87 are different?

Getting Started...
Greetings: Thanks for the replies. I have purchased a bunch of solvents, including some Sea Foam, carb and brake cleaners, and a quart of Gen-you-wine Soichiro Honda-Approved 2-Stroke oil. Fossil, they were out of Synthetic. Have brushes and tubs and bins to soak stuff. So my shopping list now inclu...

New-To-Me 1987 Aero
Greetings: On Sunday I will pick up this bike from a good friend who wants it to go to a "worthy" recipient. I'll do my best. It turns out that it's an '87, not an '85 as he previously told me - according to the year on the Owner's manual, which comes with the bike. He also has a paper cop...

Greetings: Even a small air leak at the reeds will have a significant effect on the compression measured at cranking speed. . The closure of the reed is in part dependent on the pressure applied from within the crankcase as the piston descends. If some air blows back out the reed cage, there's less ...

Compression
Greetings: I'll assume you were careful with your assembly. Did you insert the rings into the bore and measure gap? Also that you slathered everything with plenty of KY Jelly - no, check that - Genuine Soichiro Honda-Approved 2-Cycle oil when you screwed it together. No obvious external compression ...
