dual sport tires

in addition to rippin' up the streets, i occasionally like to ride off the beaten path and do some, erm, "dirt biking".

what i've noticed is that the stock street tires i have on get absolutely no traction at all on anything but dry asphalt.

i was thinking these would be a good choice-

really cheap price. what do the 50cc gods think? 3.50-10 a good size? anyone have experience with knobby tires on street?

it is good for dirt only! not for street.

Good street tire is Dunlop tt92

like i said, i'm looking for something that will work in off-road situations.

Dunlop tt92's will slip and slide all over the place.

This answer would be more specific (and shorter! :) ) if you mentioned your model/year.

I rode Dunlop Trials Universals and Trail Wings for decades on the street. I had near-knobbies on the XL600R. Due to the squirmy nature of knobs and the reduction in contact area, they're not the Summit of Stickiness on dry asphalt, but they get the job done. Given the tiny drum brakes of our beloved, I'm confident they'll be fine. Plus they're absolutely necessary for any offroad forays. Just beware sandy corners on the tarmac. :surprise:

That said, those Cheng Shins are a bit more "street-y" than most trail tires. Surely better than full-on street tires, but by how much remains to be seen.

3.50 fits later Elites in front, the fender compromises fitment for sure on Sprees and probably on Aeros, where a 90/90 kisses the fender at full-squat.

For the rear: Several Forum denizens reported minimal or no clearance issues using 3.50s on Elites - both the SE/05 and the SA/16 generations. Then again, at least one post described having to shave the engine case - Eeek! :shock: I personally have fit 90/90s astern on both engines, but have never installed a 3.50 out back. You should know that one brand might fit while another does not. All require deflation to clear the exhaust mounting bracket, then re-inflate to check for clearance in operation. Keep centrifugal growth in mind for high-speed running.

I have read that 2.75 is absolute max for Sprees. I have seen a 2.75x10 Trail Wing mounted to the rear of a Spree - Timmy's cracked and tired tire.

for trail riding on dry dirt, that will work. It just depends on what you ride. There are different knobbies for dry/wet, hard/soft, packed/loose dirt.

I have read that 2.75 is absolute max for Sprees.
If memory serves me correctly, Shelton squeezed those 3.00-10 whitewalls onto his murdered-out Spree. From personal experience, I think that 2.75 or larger requires one to abandon the inner fender/airbox.

kenda k760's are available in 2.50x10, d.o.t. approved but more for the dirt, probably the most aggressive knobs I have seen, its a compromise you'll have to decide street v. dirt

i have 3.00x10's waiting to go on my spree. sans stock airbox of course. i dont see fitment issues.
