My new scooter trailer

Post by Trafficjamz »

I just bought this trailer so I can haul all my scooters to the race track.

There is still some junk in there from the PO.

I can't wait to fix it all up and bring it to the dragstrip next season.

You do realize that if you use the logo on the trailer and the scooter that you can write it all off of your taxes as advertizing.

But you would have to insure it for (typically) higher rates on your business policy instead of your personal policy.

Why? I never did with my race boats and the IRS never squacked about it in over 15 years.

Besides that trailers are usually an just an minor add-on if your policy doesn't have it to start with.

Not the IRS, they don't care about DOT situations. My insurance would not cover me when I did that. I asked around and the other insurance angencies said the same thing, we will not cover the trailer with a business logo on a personal policy. So even if I carried full insurance on my trailer, when the insurance rep came to inspect the wreckage for a claim, they would say no money because this is not covered by your personal policy.

If the state will let you license the d*** thing, the insurance company is not gonna squawk about it as long as you don't give them to much information. Only answer their questions, volunteer nothing. Just tell them you have a utility trailer.

Michigan has permanent trailer plates. So you only have to register it once.
And I am not sure insurance is required on a trailer in Michigan.

Correct. Insurance will not squawk until the agent inspects it after an accident and then will say it is not covered under the personal policy. So as long as there is no accident, there is no problem.
