Honda Spree turn signals

Post by fairlead »

Nearly every spree I've interacted with has had faulty turn signal(s). Messing around with a low miler this morning I discovered that a VW Beetle turn signal relay, which has 2 prongs worked perfectly and restored everything to working order. It also does not hurt to check for corrosion on all the plug ins, and make sure the ground on the fixtures is tight. Maybe this is old news?

It's a good tip - Lot of guys have been replacing flashers with auto 2 pins. How did you mount your flasher?

BTW - 87 Spree used a three pin flasher, a 2 pin can work, the third wire is 'ground' and may be left open.

Im running an electronic solid state relay on my spree works great and will run leds too. I have a beeper relay on the way so i dont leave the signals on. My aero 80 has me spoiled with the relay in the dash ;-)

I mount with a zip tie around the original bracket.

Thanks fairlead!
I did the same. Works fine, I'm just looking around for an easy way to secure the flasher in a low cost manner. Maybe a springy broom handle clip or something?

BTW - Those electronic low load flashers have a downside, the OEM flasher stops flashing if one bulb is out. Mind your personal safety and periodically check your signals front and rear if you convert to that type of flasher.

Good tip about checking the lights to make sure the bulbs aren't out and the flasher will flashing :-) I am always checking my spree signals at stop lights to make sure the rear ones are still working ;-)

That's good :thumbwink:

I was parting out an old Yamaha today, and found a round Mitsuba 6 volt flasher with a rubber mount. Hey - looks about the same dia as the auto flasher I used... Turns out the rubber mount fit both the Honda tab and the auto flasher. There was a rectangular ignition box with a rubber mount too. That also fit the flasher tab, and held the auto flasher.

This pic shows the yellow 'variable load' electronic flasher and it's insides. Case is cut up, so it's insides are missing in pic set 1, and is falling out of the case in pic set 2

Sad part is after looking for just the mount from Yamaha, it was not sold as a unique part. If you have a junk box of parts, check it out, I''ll keep an eye out for mounts. It's fun to have everything mounted up looking like it belongs there.
