1986 Honda Gyro Turn Signal Bracket

Post by sonny123 »

I'm Trying to remove the turn signal bracket because the arms are bent back. It appears that if you take the two bolts out of the top of the forks that it should just come off. It looks like it is a separate part but it will not come off. I believe the gyro is all original so could this part be just stuck or is it maybe spot wielded on? Is there something else I need to take off? The shop Manual I have for it really does not go into any detail of it. Any advice before I screw it up. Thanks Dennis

Yes Dennis, that bracket is spot welded onto the top of the fork tubes.
I removed one with a chisel, and it resulted in a pretty ugly job.
Small cut-off tool (Dremel) would make for better results, I'm sure.
I am pretty sure I still have that bracket with some fairly straight arms for the signal housings.
If you want, I will take some pix... :urban:

I kinda thought that it was like that. Sure you can send some pictures. Would you do that on this site or would you need my e-mail? I would not know how to post pictures on this site. Dennis

I will post pix here on this thread.
I may create an AD in the For Sale section for assorted Gyro S parts too...
This forum is very easy to attach pix.
I can't find any directions to link.
The key is found below each new post that you write.
Click on "New Topic" under any column heading.
Below the text box, find the "Upload attachment" box
Click on "Choose file" in that box.
You should get all the files(photos) that are available in your computer's files.
Select the pic you want, and hit "Open" in that file.
Once you finish writing and selecting, hit "Preview" below
If you like it, hit "Submit"
You can add multiple pix in one post by hitting "Preview", then
hit "Add file" again. You have to hit "Preview" each time to add more files.
Try some experiments until you figure it out, then it's easy.
Lots of members use a different method (Photobucket) but what I described works for me.

just disassembled a 85 gyro. I posted a picture of the oil lamp that you were asking about, I think. I removed that bracket from the fork tree.
mine was not welded and came off, no problems

How curious...
The bracket I chiseled off was also on an 85.
It was certainly factory spot-welded.

Just so i am sure that we are on the same page: You are saying that your turn signal bracket was tack welded directly to the fork tubes. I just doubled checked mine. I thought maybe someone had taken them apart before me. But there was no evidence that they were ever tacked together.
strange indeed

No not tack wielded right on the tubes. There is kinda a horse shoe shape bracket that appears to be the turn signal bracket it's self. Then there is an other bracket it sits below it that has 3 holes for the steering nut and the fork tubes. The horse shoe part is tack wielded to this plate. Or at least that is what I think it is. So these two parts need to be separated. It would have been so easy if they had been separate but it looks like the whole section needs to come off. Dennis

I guess i was a little lost. Motormike said the bracket was spot welded to the top of the fork tubes.
The bracket is welded to the plate that is bolted to the top of the tubes. I was considering those 2 pieces as one piece. Sorry confusion i had.

My 86 Gyro is in need of some new tires. Does anyone know what size to get and where to buy them? I just about have it restored so tires is in need.

The OEM size 4:50x6 has been long discontinued.
You can replace with the 5:30x6 if you want to stay with a tall skinny tire.
For better control and braking, choose either 13x5.00x6' or 15x6.00x6 lawn tractor front tires.

The larger tires may require some fender spacing for clearance.
This subject is discussed a few times on this forum, if you wish to use the search feature...refer to upper right....mm... :urban:

Hi; I did find the thread and one person ( mousewheels ) said you could get tires at Walmart in the auto. Have you heard of this? If so I will search Walmart for the tires.
