Greetings:

Can you address the issue of getting titled/registered/license plated on a vehicle not intended for US sale?

And how would we import one? in parts? Or as a whole? Do we call it art?

Can it be imported as a track bike? Or do we have to take the whole bike apart? Thanks

Greetings:

I emigrated to the U.S. and A. in 1985 with my gorgeous candy-apple red 1982 VF 750 F in a trailer towed by The Pig of Iron F-100 pickup. US customs had absolutely NO sense of humor about the fact that it lacked Environmental Perfection Administration stickers and a valid 17-digit VIN. There was at the time a Loophole that allowed emigrants to enter the States with one and ONLY one non-approved vee-hickle. Since it was unlikely that the Sabre would get far towing all my other Worldly Possessions in the small trailer, I had to leave it behind in the Great White North.

Now things may have changed in 30 years, and brokers import exotics all the time, but the process is likely complex, time-consuming and yes, expensive.

The rules are simple. Anything over 25 years old is exempt to DOT. Scooters under 50cc are exempt to EPA. If it is newer then you have to have them take it apart and send in pieces. There are plenty of agents in Japan wiling to help for a price.

I've owned a lot of Dios, and one Elite. Sold the Elite in less than a week. I kept sliding off the darn seat.

I like my dio(AF18) better. It handles way better in the corners. To be honest I never liked the other dio models as much as the AF18. I had a few AF35's and they didn't handle as good but still better than the sa50.
