2007 Honda Today NVS 50 AF61

Post by Ultraliner »

So after watching this for a few days on an online auction I contacted, negotiated with the seller and now have this sitting in my garage, all for the pretty reasonable sum of $450(just a hair over $300 USD)with a live registration!

Probably wont really be doing all that much to it other than give it a decent clean, service and selling it on. It's more of a money making exercise(hopefully)as these are selling over here for at least twice what I paid for it. The lady selling it had no idea of its real value or even what it was... Had it advertised as a Nifty 50

Have any of you guys had much experience with these? Being a 4 smoker it doesn't have the get up and go of an AF18 but will comfortably cruise at 60km/h and feels pretty nice doing it. Ms Ultraliner was even nice enough to follow me home at night in the pouring rain just to make sure I got it back here ok ;)

Greetings:

More pics please! The naked-er the better. I'd like to see the engine.

It's a GET 1, you can do the af34/35 swap if you plan on keeping it. Neat bike just slow as heck.

I recognize that machine! What you have my friend is what we call here in the USA the Honda "Metropolitan". This is really surprising to me though, because the Engine on your 2007 Honda Today, wasn't introduced to us here in the USA until 2013 when the Metro made a comeback after they were sold in 2009 with Liquid-Cooled Engines. Your motor, fan cover, air box, and muffler are exactly the same as my 2013 metropolitan, if you haven't already, check out that little decal on the Air Box, it's a "Fuel Injected" motor which means NO carburetor!! :D I attached photos below of my 13 Metro, that way you can see how identical their engines are. Huh, I wonder why Honda didn't give us the Fuel Injection until 2013? Weird. Anyways, here in the USA 13-15 Metropolitans are currently being sold for $1999 and the New 2016's are being sold for $2399 plus tax and setup fee, I think you got a great deal!

I managed to take a few slightly better pics tonight - It's dark outside when I get home now so have to make do with average garage lighting and the flash.

As y'all can see its pretty dirty at the moment, the lady had been riding it around her muddy lawn with flat tyres taking her grandkids for rides.

I think the Metropolitan was sold as a Honda Giorno over here, not sure if the Today is Fuel injected or not. Cant wait to get a bit of clear weather so I can pull the covers and give it a decent cleanup and further investigation!

How do you find the Metro performance wise Jerz? My stock AF18 Dio would leave this thing floundering in a blue smoky haze ;)

Ok maybe it isn't fuel injected. I thought that tiny sticker on the side was the same as mine, but it just said 4-Stroke. Based on the looks of that motor, it appears to be nearly identical as mine besides the kick-start cover. I like these motors because they have a Variator and they climb hills very easy with no hesitation! Some guys over on Total Ruckus have changed out the roller weights and made the Metros go 40+ mph! Plus I love the fuel injection, makes it start every time. And yes you are right, the Metro was sold as a Giorno, I thought maybe the metro was also sold as the Today as well. Huh

I haven't yet been able to confirm nor deny weather or not it is injected. Interestingly it looks like the kicker cover is the same but the Metro kicker is further forward and kicks the other way?

Do any of the Metros come with a disk front brake? Pretty sure none of these Today's do which is a bit disappointing. Have also seen a kit online from Kitaco to bring an AF61 up to 94cc with a different cam and gearing but wont be going down that road.

None of the metros have ever had a disc front brake. However some have converted or customized them with front disc brakes.

Just noticed this but your ignition is literally the same as my metro as well! I believe your Today, and my Metro are cousins because your Engine is nearly the same as mine, (besides the kick start cover). But when you look on the right side at that muffler and fan cover, those are the same parts! Your muffler looks a little different because the plastic shield is missing, mine looked the same as yours when it was off too! Only thing left now is too find out if it's Fuel Injected, should of said on the air cleaner like mine, but yours just says "4 Stroke". Hmmm, gonna haft to do some research on this bike.

Managed to get it outside and cleaned up today, looking a bit better now

I had a poke around Jerz and it's definitely running a carburetor, looks to be pretty closely related to your Metro but not 100%. The muffler shield that came with it is broken so might have to order a replacement to tidy it up.

Would be interesting to compare the two and see what advantages performance/fuel consumption wise fuel injection provides ;)

Yup so it's definitely not fuel injected, I can totally see that carb in the picture. Yes I'd say the Today and Metro are closely related, as your frame style in the pic is exactly how mine looks, the spark plug coil is in the same spot, and so is that shiny tube that goes down from the seat latch. I'd say since it's a 2007 this Engine was just getting started and by 2013 they were revamped and converted to Fuel Injection for the Metro in the US. But your motor for sure is the same as mine, just different fuel setup.

I sold this bad boy today for $650 more than I paid for it. Was a reasonable scooter and rode nicely but the lack of power the 4 stroke provided was pretty unexciting.

Time to start looking for the next one :ndance:
