Final solution for bystarter blues; manual model?
Guys: Ran across this on 1977 mopeds:
https://www.1977mopeds.com/product/1535 ... Choke-Kit/
Not sure if this will fit the stock PA carbs, but sure looks similar to a manual version of the bystarter. Can't beat the price at $12.
Anyone know if this will work on the PA's?

Second thought, "Can I make it cable operated or better yet solenoid operated?"

Idea sounds good, but manufacture doesn't sound like keihin Still it's inexpensive...Not sure if this will fit the stock PA carbs, but sure looks similar to a manual version of the bystarter. Can't beat the price at $12. Anyone know if this will work on the PA's?
Manufacturer: Dellorto
Dellorto Part #: D53015
Style: PHVA Flip Choke Kit
Found a pic of that flip choke on the factory carb:
Re: Final solution for bystarter blues; manual model?
Yep. On the Spree, this would be so-so to access, as it's on the outside of the engine, but under panels. On the Elite's, it would be a bear to get to; underneath panels and on the inside of the engine.
I figure it's better than running with nothing. I suspect most guy's bikes will start without the bystarter on warm days, but they run terrible if it's jammed upward or, better still, missing.

You could always use a piece of piano wire and drill a hole in the primer handle and then one above it in the plastics and run the wire from the lever up thru the plastic with a loop on top. You could make any necessary bends to attach the wire to the primer lever so you could push and pull. The loop would hardly show. But you could activate and shut off the manual primer easily.

Factory Carb?
Greetings:
Mr. Mouse's "Factory" carb looks suspiciously like a Dell'Orto. The adjusting screws are on the wrong side too.

Here's the PHVA carb. At $77, looks like a good candidate for stock replacement on an Elite, other than I don't see a vacuum port. Note weird white plastic bit stuffed into bystarter hole.

Re: Final solution for bystarter blues; manual model?
That one sure looks closer the keihin than what I found. Looks like you have carbs on hand
There's a whole lot models that say PHVA at this site, of either the 'wrong' type or an incorrect photo. I notice that the electric choke model has a photo of the 'flip lever'....

More useful - there are some tiny jets #44-#54. If they fit our carbs, and a guy was drilling anyway, they are about $4

The weird plastic cap in the bystarter hole would be called a dust cap to keep crap out of the hole until a bystarter is installed.noiseguy wrote:Here's the PHVA carb.
