Re: 1986 black Spree project
I remember a discussion of plugging up the end of the exhaust and filling it with draino as in shower an sink cleaner and letting it sit for a week or so. Never did get a result to that one lol

Re: 1986 black Spree project
Good job taking your time with her. My scoot was also brought back to life from a near junkyard state. Makes it feel so much better once you get to ride her for the first time.
Nice work!

Re: 1986 black Spree project
Thanks rich. I want her to look clean and restored and only buying new parts if it is necessary. Most people would buy a seat cover or new wheels just because they look horrible. That is not my way if its good why buy more? All it takes is a good drill with a wire brush and some spray paint to make metal look new, have a few pics of the restore it can get all messed up again Then I can make it look like new again I am sanding and painting the center stand now, all that leaves is the frame itself to repaint but that can wait everything else has been polished and taken care of. Have the clutch cover off now while the paint dries. Had to come in to consult the manual for an easy way to get the clutch hub off without sticking a metal bar in my new shiny rims

Re: 1986 black Spree project
Ok I have taken the entire drive apart, even took apart the transmission, it looked immaculate so i just put it back together. I dont have any tools to check for the wear etc so just guessing could anyone tell me whether I need to replace any of these parts?

Re: 1986 black Spree project
Greetings:
It all looks pretty good to me. Put the rear pulley on the clutch shaft and give it a spin. It should run true. If it wobbles visibly, it may need to be replaced. Otherwise, bolt up and go.

Re: 1986 black Spree project
Yea I went and got a gates 7240 and changed that cleaned every part to get any oil off, grease the bearings etc etc. The clutch is definately catching but the engine bogs down when I put weight on the scoot and when I try to open her up she goes dead. Soooo I figured I'd just take the entire engine off that way I can easily get to the head to check piston and rings and to take the carb etc off to check the reeds and oil pimp and clean exhaust manifold could be carbon built up cause it ran a bit better when i unscrewed the muffler then hardly at all when i took it off I'll just check everything I havent messed wtih yet. Thanks for the thumbs up guys.

Re: 1986 black Spree project
Thanks I will check that as soon as i take the head off and the other stuff when I get the engine back on. Shouldnt take me long to check/clean the manifold and reeds, thank goodness the engine is so easy to install

Re: 1986 black Spree project
hahahha thanks for the moral support fastplastic. I worked on restoring my 72 cb450 for 6 months last summer so this Spree is a LOT easier to piddle with than that beast. Not to mention I am a fast learner. What more do you need than a few sockets, a manual, an entire post to search and the expertise of other people? If I can do it with all the information available then anyone can do it with a little patience and lots of grease rags

Re: 1986 black Spree project
well the answer would surprise you lol
Re: 1986 black Spree project
I may have figured out one of my problems, as I was taking the intake manifold off to check the reeds I noticed a lot of old oil build up around on the engine and around the base of the manifold. When i started to take the bolts out the right bolt wasnt even tightened so hopefully at some point someone didnt tightened that bolt causing a vacuum leak This could explain why it would run mid throttle but die out at full throttle. I am hoping this is the problem but I am going to check everything else while I have the motor off the scoot also gives me a chance to clean everything, get all the gunk, rust, and dirtdopper nests lol I also noticed I had stripped the threads outta the carb where it bolts on to the manifold hopfully I have a tap and die that can remedy that problem
