insurance prices
OK so im going to be 16 soon and i am planing on driving my spree i live in Canada and here the Honda spree is not considered a moped it is a LSM (limited speed motorcycle) and i am wondering how much you guys think it will be to insure it without collision because i know it is cheaper without it. i am asking you guys because the insurance company will not give me a quote and i have tried the online free quotes but they don't work with bikes older then 1993 so if you guys could give me a rough estimate that would be great.
p.s..... sorry for the bad spelling

Re: insurance prices
Here in Oregon my spree costs $75 US for a year. I don't know how comparable rates are between our regions, but I cannot imagine it being much more than this.

I just turned 17 and I live in Canada also
I pay $86 a year and I got collision on mine. That's it.
I live in Alberta, so might give you a good price.

Re: insurance prices
I suppose you have progressive insurance there too? I just purchased motorcycle insurance and they were MILES ($1000 a year) cheaper than anybody else I tried. I didn't believe the lady when she first told me...
Re: insurance prices
lol i wish that were the price here but im guessing it will be somewhere around 400 bucks.

Re: insurance prices
Don't be afraid to shop around.I live in Michigan and a few years ago I was looking for ins. for a new fast sport bike('97 tl1000) and the first 4-5 places I called wanted $1300-$2600(the bike was only $7500 and I was over 40,no points,no accidents,no claims). That is a wide difference of cost for the same coverage. Finally I came upon a company that charged by the displacement of the engine instead of simply because it was a sport bike.I ended paying $475(that's what others wanted as the first payment) for the same coverage. So shop around, take notes, ask how they come up with the costs.Good luck.Carp

Andrew, which province u in? Are you sure its a "lsm"? because i know early this year the insurance was trying to get me to pay insurance for a "motorcycle" when in fact there's no way in * that a Spree is one. The reason they messed up is because for the liscence plate, it IS a motorcycle plate, so they register it as so, but somewhere on the paper they also state its a "moped". But thats for liscensing, not insurance. The difference in cost? well when they made that mistake, they wanted $196, they corrected it and now its only $86. And BTW, last year (when my insurance was $70) if i wanted collision, insurance would have been in the area of $400!!!!
I hope some of this info is usefull.

Re: insurance prices
I live on the Central Coast of California...
I own way to many two wheeled vehicles (5 scooters, 2 motorcycles), all of which have to be insured when I register them, so I usually bounce around the insurance from scooter to scooter depending on which ones registration is due.
I have the lowest basic coverage on all of my motorcycles and scooters. Currently the 89 Elite E, 99 Elite S, 03 V-Strom 1000, and WR 426 Supermoto are all insured under the same company for ~$80 a year. Im 24 with a lot of tickets when I was younger, but now only have 1 point on my record.
I think $80 is a great deal for my big bikes, but when I finally got around to insuring my scooters I was shocked that it's the same price
How can the justify charging the same amount for my 89 50cc scooter that does 30mph as they do for my V-Strom that I've taken up to 140mph?

Re: insurance prices
Maybe because they know you? Just teasing. It doesn't seem fair in one way, but in another way, you might just consider the rate a bargain for the big bike. We're lucky in Missouri on the 50's (no requirements), but my Helix only costs $75 a year. Compared to my cars, I consider that a bargain. How can the justify charging the same amount for my 89 50cc scooter that does 30mph as they do for my V-Strom that I've taken up to 140mph?
