i got a spree from a friend and cant get it to fire. i pour gas down the spark hole and it will sputter but i am not getting any gas to the carburator bowl? i have pulled off the vacum line and sucked and gas flows for a while but stops?

...just gas in the spark plug, huh? you DO know it's a 2 stroke, right?
Re: 87 honda spree
One of two things, as long as the fuel flows from the petcock when you suck on the vacuum line, then the petcock is good. The other one is the float/needle valve is stuck in the carburetor.

Re: 87 honda spree
thats great. thanks for the info. i will try the float needle next. i have the carb soaking right now. i will try try tonight and i will let you know.
i do have gas coming out the line when i suck on the vacum line. so thats not it.
but it seems tho ther is air coming out the nipple that the vacum line attaches to. should be sucking right.

Greetings:
A pull on the petcock line should draw the diaphragm down to open the valve. Capping the line (or plugging it with your tongue - eek!) while under vacuum should keep that flow going indefinitely. If that's where your "air is coming out", then there's a pinhole in your diaphragm. Relace if so.
If you mean the 1/8" metal hose barb at the manifold is expelling air instead of sucking, there is an in/out rhythm to it, but the net result should be vacuum. If not your reedvalve isn't sealing or there's a gasket gap somewhere.
