PG Pipes Get Louder?

Post by Wheelman-111 »

Greetings:

Another Myth Busted. According to VTCycles, who responded to my query on this topic:
I have never had the exhaust get louder on me and there is no glass to repack. No repacking is a good thing. No I have heard guys complain about baffles coming loose. But there is no baffles in the b pipe. It is a cone. The pipe is a expanision chamber with a different type of silencier. The tail cone in the pipe can come loose over time with running over man-hole covers, off of curbs and hitting holes in the street.
I for one am glad. :thumbwink:

yes it gets louder.thats why I took it off to run my pg typhoon for now.I'm going to cut the end cap off and weld in a pipe so i can drill holes in it then wrap silencer packing around it to muffle the sound a bit.

I think sound level increases marginally overtime on the PG, but openfilter on 28mm carb >>> exhaust noise anyway

One of the main reasons I got the PG Typhoon over the PG Long was the noise factor. I didn't want to * the neighbors off, and as it is, the Typhoon is pretty noticeable sound-wise on a residential street.

Victor you need to source a ddx airbox with the typhoon it will be almost dead silent.. with the PG Long it will dramatically deaden the sound.. source them as I would like another ;)

Guys,

There is a single layer of packing in the PG Long- I cut my used one open to see if it would be feasible to modify it to help knock some of the sound volume down.

Right near the very back of the pipe there is an inner perforated core and a single layer of fiberglass packing (about 1/8" thick) between the perforated core and the outer shell. I will post post pictures tonight.

Hmmm. Do you have a picture of the ddx box? Also, I'm running the TM24 carb.

nacree,

Yeah, please post a pic of your "dissected" PG Long, I would love to see a picture.

and elite_dub is right on... a DDX Airbox is the only way to go to deaden the sound, and keep performance. It freakingn sucks that they are so rare these days in new condition.

Jay, how much did the DDX airboxes cost back in 01'-03' when they were common in shops?

Talk to you all later, jon

Ah, found some pics of the DDX box. It's a bit too much bulk for my liking, but function over form wins on a late night ride through the 'hood.

I've seen some pretty neat ways of deadening the sound. One guy with his Aprilia SR50 used flexible hose that was routed to an airbox integrated into his seat bucket. The rear of the seat bucket had some circular cutouts covered by wire mesh. So air was sucked in via the cutouts, and routed to a baffled airbox, which then fed the hose connected to the carb. It was pretty slick.

yup that works real good for cutting down intake noise.the only thing is that you cant put anything in your storage seat bucket if you do that.I used a 87 elite airbox on my elite s with my 24mm mikuni. I just cut the hole bigger where the rubber connector for the carb is and used a hose clamp so the airbox doesn't slide off the carb and then modded the air inlet on the lid.it helped alot on noise and it made the engine look stock because in hawaii the cops will pull you over for a modded moped.

Thanks! Nice work on the drilling and inner tube removal. :2thumbs:

It's kinda the opposite of what I thought it would look like inside. I thought the cone would have been reversed.

Later, Thanks again for the pics!
