First, not just any tach is gonna work. A car tach with 4-6-8 settings will not work, it will read anywhere from 1/2 to 1/4 of your actual engine rpm. You need a tach for a 2 stroke. Wiring the tach will depend on what kind of tach you have. A Tiny Tach has built in batteries and to connect you wrap the wire around the spark plug lead and ground the other lead (if it has one).

Hi - welcome back!
Like Bear says, there are a lot of ways to for a even a cycle tach to interface.
Here's some links to tachs showing a few different connections. Some have adaptors, inductive pickups, some tie into the coil wiring and some are just a wrap of wire around the ignition coil wire.

thanks guys those links will give me a really great start, i figured the 4 stroke tack would show 1/2 or 1/4 speed but if I can get it to work in that state that is all I really need for now, I just want a cool gadget that moves when i rev up. And down the road when i can pony up the cash for the right rig i will do that for sure. one of those links will have the answers i seek i'm sure. and whewn I have tach in hand i'll post somee pics. Here is one like the tiny tach but pretty cheap!

Hello all,
New to this forum looking for information on sun pro 2 tach mods. Found on a web search where mousewheels had made mods to these tachs. Would like to get in touch to discuss a project I’m working on.
