100 trouble free WOT miles..

Post by wikked_spree57 »

So I made a long ride last night on my scooter from Saginaw, MI to Pinconning, MI and back.

Got a friend who lives up there, so I purposely took the long way to see if the scooter could handle it, and all the way both directions(50 miles each way almost) at 37mph it took me an hour and 20 minutes to ride 50 miles. Even got caught in a rainstorm that was so intense going over 15 felt like needles, and it didn't flinch a muscle.

I'm happy to say I finally have something in this world to count on, none of my other scooters have made that trip without some sort of trouble.

I'll post speedo pics to prove it later on tonight guys.

Remember to wire that oil pump to wide open too, since most of you driving is @ WOT.

The air box lid is still stock. But don't punch that other tab out untill you get a bigger jet

thats a long trip for a small scooter. Don't know that i would attempt that but cool that the scooter made it that far with no overheating, etc. Must have it set up pretty well.

I forgot to add when I was a teenager I rode my aero50 to lake mead from Vegas and then back with no problems. It purred like a kitten. It was spring so it wasnt to hot. I am not sure what the mileage is on that.

anyone else tried these kinds of trips on the air cooled 2 strokes?

Ive debated it, i figure i have a higher rist of problems because of the big bore, but im geared so high that WOT doesn't give that high of an rpm, figured it probably wouldn't hurt anything. We need bear

I ride my spree about 25 to 30 miles each way when I ride it to work. I do that about twice a week never had any problems.

I've run the ol' red spree at WOT through a whole tank of gas on several occations. I've put on a minimum of 1200 miles each year for the past 3. As long as the bike is tuned right, you should be good. Get a CHT gauge if you are concerned.
With the big bore, cooling could be a concern, but honda-san is keen on over-engineering. How big are we talking here?

I have an 82 main jet in the carb, not a 68.

When I got her she only did 25, and that was unacceptable. I threw my 82 main in and derestricted the trans, and Trafficjamz brought me a derestricted stock pipe. i have not opened the other hole, it may require a bigger jet still.

Everything is stock with restrictions removed. I don't think I will big bore it till next year, I'll just go with gears and vari for now, 50MPH is plenty. And Tjamz yes the pump is ziptied open...

hey wikked i opened the other hole in the airbox and i run 85 jet, in my prodigy vari i have 7.5 gram rollers, and a set of 2k grab springs in the stock clutch. runs to 50 in the long run, up to 40-45 in a hurry, then cruises up to 48/50 the longer the run.

I overheated my Spree once by WOT on a long gradual downhill run in Charlotte with a hefty tailwind. Was going over 40MPH, over-revved, didn't think it would be an issue, but it soft-seized for a few minutes before going back to normal. Didn't do that again.
