Checkin in, first post... here at least

Hey everyone. Felt like saying what up. My name is Ben... some on here may actually remember I used to have a webpage called Ben's Honda Elite Page back in the day which was a small technical site as well.

Currently in Chicago. I have a 1995 Honda Elite S. De-rescricted (airbox, jetted, bored out exhaust, tied open oil pump, and have a POP pulley kit.. not sure what roller weights)

I basically just got rid of my car out here since it's not needed in the city where I live and work and brought my moped here not too long ago from home (Michigan)

Just sayin hey. Called up VT Cycles today to get some prices. Looking at probably doing a 72cc Malossi kit, typhoon exhaust, with a new gear set (believe he said 8.4:1 gears)

What do you guys think? Looking for a moped for stop and go city riding with crazy low end torque and top speed maybe about 55-60 mph max. :D

Hey Ben, them parts should do it. I'd go with 9:1 gears for city riding crazy low-end torque. If you go with the Malossi you will need to match the boost port in cases.

Is there a writeup anywhere out there on how to do that port match?

Portage, MI eh? I went to WMU. You familure with the moped army dudes?

Read through pages 4 and 5. The "case porting" to match the cylinder boost port is described there. Polini is bolt on but the Malossi cast iron has a bigger boost port. If you don't port the cases to match then the rear of piston might overheat and cause a problem.

I don't hang with the moped army guys, they look down on scooters :coolcruise:

Ok so I just read through that and I understand how to port it but didn't trafficjamz do that because he was going with a bigger crank (stroker) setup?

Nope, it's for the bigger boost port in his cylinder. Mini-stroker has nothing to do with it.

Can i get some back up here or let Ben blow up his expensive big bore?

The compressed charge from piston downstroke forces some of the charge up the boost port which cools and helps push spent gases out exhaust port (That is why the exhaust port is directly across from boost port). Drive to Portage and i'll port your cases.

May have to take you up on that offer haha. If I'm doing any case cutting at all, then why not go balls to the wall and go stroker/mini-stroker setup? or would that just be ridiculous for what I'm looking for? Realistically I was going to buy these parts little by little this summer and in the fall tear it apart for the 'rebirthing' of this thing so if I wanted to save for a stroker setup I could especially now I don't have my car. What do you think?

so I talked to Keoni at VT again today and he stated that again, it is not necessary to port match with the setup I'm going with.

Not sure what to do here.

My Typhoon exhaust is on the way to Chicago. :2thumbs:

Question for everyone: can new gears be installed without pulling the engine off the bike?

OK, i give up on the boost porting since i don't have any back-up, just be warned and i will be the first to say "told ya so". Gears can be done without removing motor, you will need to remove muffler and rear wheel though.

So what setup are you going with, Malossi or Polini?

Malossi 72cc.. I even told him that 'guys on the forums' (not evilone from hondaspree.net haha) told me I should open up that boost port and he said his brother runs this exact setup with no issues.

I'm sure it can't hurt but what a pain in the * to pull this whole engine.

I still may do it anyway though. I want just a super reliable quick setup. I'm going to run the stock carb for torque just rejet and what not.

also another question, he said this pipe is sprayed with clear. Has anybody on here grinded that off and sprayed with high temp?
