Elite 50S Single throttle cable to 50SR cable problem

So... I ordered this SR split throttle cable new from taz off ebay (thanks for the quick shipping btw taz) and I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to remove the cap that goes on the stock carb (where the throttle meets) and get it onto my new cable. Can someone explain this to me. Is there a special tool? Am I just not seeing something obvious here? :crazy:

(in case you are wondering I do plan on using my stock carb which is why I am having this issue)

if you look from the topside, there is a clip holding the cable in the cap. its pretty hard to get it apart. i used a paper clip forced in the groove, using a rotating force and it popped apart. its not really made to come apart.

and even if I do get this apart, how do I get this on the new cable? there has to be a way to do this

yes thats correct. the new cable will just rest in the cap. the new cable doesnt fit like factory cable.

if the cap isnt secured to the new cable won't that affect proper operation of the throttle?

this is what i did. i ripped cable out of brass part and trimmed new cable to fit.

the spring seems to hold it in. i couldnt really find a better solution. than to get a factory cable with the top included.

yeah, i thought the new cable was a direct replacement too. but i had to make it work.

I had the same problem and I cut the old cable off and put the cap in a vise and carefully drilled the brass enough to work it out of there. It took time but worked great!

I have just decided to get a new carb for my project. Actually not going to lie. I crushed the carb throttle top. oops.

I do have an extra split cable if you want to still go that route.

I think an aftermarket carb is a good idea.

I agree. I want to do this thing right there are way more pros than cons to going big carb.

Having the oil pump is convenient but being able to know exactly what fuel oil mixture I'm running is more important.
