Scooter Fuel Injection Kit

Post by nacree »

Has anyone seen this-

http://www.mbe-motorsports.com/catalog/ ... cts_id/190

Looks like a pretty complete kit. Not sure the injector flow rates are right for two-stroke but still would be the ultimate in tunability...

The $400 base price is reasonable and it would sure solve a myriad of tuning issues that the BBK create. Just get the optional oxygen sensor and you would have it tuned in 1/2 an hour.

Bear,

Have you ever used an O2 sensor on a two-stroke? Not sure if the kit uses a narrow band or wide band O2 but I was thinking of trying it but I am concerned about lifetime issues due to the oil output in two stroke exaust. Maybe unfounded but I would love to hear from someone who has used one on a two-stroke.

I have worked on fuel injected 2 strokes, even got sent to school on them. However the only ones with an O2 sensor were Direct Injected systems (the fuel charge is squirted directly into the cylinder and not into the intake system) and had very little oil in the fuel (they used a pressure oiling system much like 4 strokes use). But the standard EFI and the DFI systems were super reliable. The racers that used them found then extremely easy to tune with their laptop in hand.

I suspect the O2 sensor here would be oil tolerate, but I would contact the manufacturer to check before I bought one.

The system needs 60 watts of power to keep it going. I kinda doubt if the charging system would be able to keep up. You can buy a lot of jets for 400 dollars. If the system had enough sensors and could learn .... would be cool.

Yeah, 5A continuous might not be doable. However, Honda Metropolitans seem to be able to produce enough power to run an ECU, fuel injectors and fuel pump.

$400 seems a little steep and would buy a lot of jets but just think about not having to drop that float bowl, get gas all over your hands, and just be able to plug in a serial cable to change the fuel map. $400 would also only buy about 3 decent carbs. I have spent that much easily on carb swaps.

Might look into it.

The stock Spree does 87 watts @ 5000 RPM.

My Aero 80 does 110 watts @ 5000 RPM

A SA50 does 96 Watts for the '88 to 93 models, 88 watts for the '94 to 89" models and after 2000 it's 100 watts all at 5,000.

I'm sure the real power sucker is the fuel pump. Electric motor are * on a small charging system.
