I just picked up one of these bad boys on Craigslist for $650. only has 550 miles on it but some of the decals are gone.

Please note the very custom hanging front blinkers. very rare.

I have big plans for this little moto. "big plans for smalls bikes" is sorta the theme for my mechanical life.

Right off the line i want to basically powdercoat everything black except the frame which i will probably do silver.
New tires (110/90 and 90/80)
Ceramic coat and wrap the exhaust
round headlight with new speedometer/tach setup
eliminate the oil pump and oil tank and run a premix
restore the gas tank to original quality
cr80 intake/reed swap with a PE24 carb
integrated taillight/turnsignal set up
new chain
40 tooth rear sprocket
tapered triple tree steering bearings
Posh CDI
New grips
New mirrors

If i am feeling very ambitious i might chop the rear off and run a dove tail/naked look with no side panels. i will see about that though

I got the frame back from the Powdercoaters. i went with a Silver color and a semi gloss clear coat. everything else on the bike will be black except for the gas tank and the mono shock spring. ill also do some Gold accents like the chain and some hardware parts. You will also notice that i chopped off the back part so i will not be running a rear storage compartment or the side panels. they are for sale if anyone would like them

This is the a picture of the frame with the swing arm in place, monoshock with the powdercoated spring to match the color on the gas tank decals. turned out nice in my humble opinion.

This is the back end with the rear wheel installed. i had the wheels trued before i got them powdercoated. i also installed new bearings and got the Pirelli 110/80 tires with new tubes. they turned out very nice. That clear reservoir on the left is going to be the new coolant overflow. those cannisters are designed for the Honda Ruckus but i think it will look good on this bike because the coolant is such an interesting color.

The front wheel got the same treatment as the back wheel with the 90/80 pirelli, new tube, new powdercoat, new bearings. Fully installed and ready for some quick spinning. Im going to stay with the stock speedo and brake cables but i will be upgrading the perches, levers and speedometer themselves later.

One of the more tricky things i did was change the front headlight mounts and redbuild the forks. Rebuilding the forks was easy. i got the bottom parts powder coated black and polished the tubes. the tubes are only 29mm so it was hard to find headlight brackets that are that small so what i ended up doing was buying 30mm ID tubing and cutting it to fit on the tubes between the two triple tree parts. then i was able to buy 33mm brackets that went on nicely. I also upgraded the triple tree bearings with All-balls racing tapered bearing sets #99-3516-5 on the top and #99-3517-5 on the bottom. on the top i don't use the dust seal.

This is where the project currently stands. Ive started adding the electrical back and i am currently working on the motor itself. i have all the controls on order so hopefully will install all that stuff this week. once the motor is in place it should be done pretty quickly after that and back on the road. vroom vroom

Greetings:

Much respect for your superb attention to detail, and gratitude that you chose to share!

I've forever joked about performing mechanical tasks over Ms. Wheel-person's Priceless Persian Rug, and here you are doing it for real! Then again it doesn't look like you spill very much. I'm confident that your NS will be something special. Keep the pics coming!

You may want to put a spacer wahser under each seat rubber shock adsorber. I have heard those modles have a wobbly tank from factory. Maybe its due to the people owning them having them 10 years after they were built or it is a design flaw. Along with a few other siluar biks if the tank isnt hard to get on those rubber post it isnt tight enough.

We have lots of these rugs in the house so i thought why not stick with the theme and put them in the garage too! it does get dirty from time to time. thanks for the comments. i'm doing my best and ill keep the pictures as up to date as i can. thanks again!

that's interesting. ill add maybe 1/4" on each mount and see if that helps. thanks!

Yeah a lot of bike have tank wobble and when either the tank is full of gas or they bump it, the mount bends or snapped off the the tank is really wobbly. A few more bikes that do this are the 2002-2005 hyosung 650, selected years of the klr 250, some of the newer dirtbikes like kawi 400f and stuff have loose fitted tanks from factory.
