2010 NHX110- Valve adjustment schedule & need???????

Post by UGAElite110 »

Hey everyone-

First I need to preface that the last bike I owned was a 2007 Honda CBR600RR. I put over 15,000 miles on in in less then two years and loved every minute of it. The manual never discussed much about valve adjustments- those motors were just different in design and didn't need it.

However...I just bought a new 2010 Honda Elite 110 (NHX110) and was looking through the manual...

This is apparently NOT the case with the Elite 110. The owners manual says that at 600mi and every 2500mi after- the valve clearances should be checked. Thats fine, I guess- I did the valves on my old VW bug every month but my question is this- Do these motors need this checkup every 2.5k miles or is the manual a bit over zealous? I genuinely don't know. I talked with Honda and they said its between $120-220 for the work depending on how much they do.

Now even though I have the technical ability to perform the job, grad school and planning a wedding are very time consuming so I would let Honda do it. I just need to know if its a true NEED or just something I could do every 5000 miles.

Thanks for the help and opinions

I'm not sure about the new Honda motors....but my Madass I check the valves every 1,000-1,500 miles. It is a 140cc 4-stroke so I would guess it's similar. Also, be sure to do the early mileage check because the original setting WILL change after break-in!

EDIT: It is a rather simple procedure if you know the intake and exhaust clearance?

Thanks!

I just ordered the service manual the other day. Hopefully I will be able to do the adjustments on my own. I may have Honda do it this first time... I would hate to screw something up on this scoot so early in its life.

Any place on this forum or another forum that goes through adjusting them? I have looked on youtube but have yet to find anything really great.

Thanks so much

follow what the manual says to do. if you do that then you should be fine. if you wait any longer than what it calls for, then your asking for problems down the road.
Nothing like getting stroked!

Not sure if your engine is much different, but this is how we do it.
