Idle Set screw (throttle stop)

Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
I have a 1984 Gyro. Starts good and runs good, but cannot get it to idle. My throttle stop screw looks like it does not have a long enough tip to it. Almost looks like it is broken off. I get no adjustment by turning it all the way in. Does anyone have a picture of a good throttle stop screw and know if a throttle stop screw from any other carb would work on my 84 Gyro? Thanks

This part fits 112 scooter thru 2003. Honda will most surely have this available.

Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
Thanks for the quick reply. I checked since my post and saw it is used on most all models in 1984 and probably more years. Do you now of a good picture so I can tell what mine should look like. The online pictures are not real clear. Looks like it should have a long pointy tip. Like I was saying, I get no adjustment when I turn mine all the way in. Thanks

Worst case scenario: Just buy a new one? It's only $9.00

Why buy something if I dont need it! Thanks
Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
You have 3 choices.curtis wrote:Why buy something if I dont need it! Thanks
1) Throttle cable maladjusted too short not letting the slide come any lower.
2) The slide is screwed up. Easy enough to remove it and inspect it.
3) The needle is broke off.
Troubleshot it and find out what is wrong. Then fix it.

Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
First of all I have checked the slide. Not the problem. Next, why mess with a cable if it is not the problem. Next, how do I know if the tip is broken off of my adjustment screw, since I am hoping to see a picture of a known good one? I have not seen what a good one looks like or I would rule it out.

Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
Because *, if it is adjusted too short at the throttle grip then the slide can not go clear to full idle. Crap do you think I make these suggest for some know nothing nitwit like you to argue with me? If the needle don't look broke it isn't. It just has a tapered tip on it. You don't know how to fix it but have the balls to tell me I don't know what I'm talkin' about. *, I hope you never fix it stupid.curtis wrote:First of all I have checked the slide. Not the problem. Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
Thanks Dun rite. You are the only one on here who answered my question. Bear you can go f*** yourself and hope you wipe out hard the next time you ride your litlle scooter!
Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
To stupid to know a good answer when it hits him in the face. Your question is irrelevant at best. Then again if you can't figure out whether a simple screw with a tapered tip on it is good or bad from looking at it, pretty much puts your skill level in perspective. I still bet the cable is maladjusted.curtis wrote:Thanks Dun rite. You are the only one on here who answered my question. Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
Just to up date you all. Dun rite helped me the most. Bear you where wrong, probably like most of the time! Cable had nothing to do with it. Bought a new screw and I fixed a problem that none of you helped me with. Again thanks done right. Bear you were no help at all except to arouse your friends on here about what you think you know and how you like to put down those who you dont know and that might just out smart you.
Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
im not a moderator or any thing the like, but bear is has a wealth of knowledge, he offered up suggestions that you didnt even want to look at, if you were so sure it was the idle screw then why ask the question at all. curtis this kind of attitude is no tolerated here, this will get you banned if it continues. fix your stining scooter and ride the stupid thing, dont come here asking questions you already know the answers to. bear has helped a great number of us and hope he continues to help us all.

Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
On top of that he is lying, there is no way the screw caused his issue because it can't. A physical impossibility and how did he get a screw so fast?

Re: Idle Set screw (throttle stop)
Bear. I would be happy to post a picture of the screw that was the problem. Next I drove to a honda shop in Kansas City that had it in stock. That was after checking all those in my area that were all in a system that showed who had them. Closest was St. Louis. Checked a shop not on the system and they had it. Want to see a receipt also? Sorry but you were wrong!
