85 Gyro Thinking Industral Mods

6/9/11 Started working on a Gyro and was thinking Go with an Industrial look .
Everyone is trying to keep gyros stock ..... Why ?
I was thinking do a aluminum side cover (go ahead and laugh )
This was just a mock up useing cardboard just to get an idea of how it might look .
Also it would act as a storage area.

Then I started thinking change the floor board .
I just used the old one as a template / put a bunch of masking tape over it then marked where the bends were and the bolt holes .
Took off the tape and put it over a piece of metal I had sitting around /and started cutting .
I don't have a brake press so I used 2 steel plates and started making my bends .

Somebody take those scissors away from him.........really, aluminum ?......next thing you know you've got a chinese family riding with you...Ping, Ding, Wang, Bing, Dong............. and I mean that

Started doing more bends and it actually started looking like it might work .
It only took about hour and 1/2 to get the basic form done .

Then I used a spare frame (makes it a lot eaiser )
To check to see if it will fit .
And did more bending and hammering where needed .

Removed the masking tape bend here bang there .
Started fitting / drilled bolt holes .

I know you would want me to be honest,.......it looks like it would grate the he** outta some parmesan....

Next stick them on the bike that will probably get the floor board and check for fit .
Had to make some cuts to allow for the parking brake.

I noticed you could still see all the stuff underneath ,
So I will start looking for some thin metal for a skid plate .
And possibly put some lighting effects between the skid plate and the floorboard .

I used the same metal on the muffler shroud.
But I might just use the metal w/o the shroud .

I was also thinking use an industrial lamp housing .
It's just a tad bit bigger than the OEM I was going to try to put the speedo
in the lamphouse and use LED's for the indicators / oil / and High beams
also add some switches for the headlight so I can turn it off in the daytime .

actually, im totally into this.
i really like the way that grate metal looks under the shroud cover.
i really wanted to do a steampunk/industrial build, but realized how high the cost of copper is.
my thoughts...if i were gonna do a gyro build w/ industrial in mind...i'd watch every episode of TNG with "the borg" in it for inspiration. thats the kind of techy-yet-road warriorish feel i think of for "industrial"

Agree with fightingplankton......the muffler trim looks good, mainly with the cover.......I'm just not grooving on the whole floorboard trip......my inspiration might involve another look at Mad Maxx,,,it's not the look you're after, it's just a cool movie.....that Satelite is cool beans
