Haggard battery setup

Check this incredibly haggard battery connection I got. Free battery from a friend, how could I argue? Btw, this is NOT permanent, just until I have enough spare cash to pick one up from Lake Cycle



Also, I must have wired something wrong because my brake light is ALWAYS on. Any help?

First, YOU SERIOUSLY DON'T HAVE $37 FOR A NEW BATTERY?????

Second, those small gauge wires are going to get pretty hot running all that current through them

Nah I really don't have $37 for a new battery. Being in Highschool, and not having a stable income, makes having spare cash rather difficult. Lol. They probably will, but for now (next few days that is) they will work fine. Also there is no batteries around here that are cheaper then $50.

But do you know why my brake light is always on?

Well installing the CORRECT battery would be a good start.

Also, getting a job would be helpful. Scootering, like most everything else costs quite a bit of money.

Okay, your brake light is always on because somewhere, 12 volts isrunning through a wire to the brake light......yeah, obvious stoopid answer.....probably one of the switches on brake levers is actuated....By the way, that battery wont have much chance of hanging on without nuts to hold the rack on.........

Yeah I know scootering costs money. I do have a job, sort of. Landscaping for some elderly couples. Haven't been called in a while though.

And I have the nuts for the front of the rack, on the back there is 2 nuts heavily tightened, it ain't going anywhere. The battery is also very secure. I know its dumb, but its a temporary quick fix, for a broke, cheap freshman.

The only time there is any real current thru those wires is when the starter motor is being cranked. And you are not suppose to crank the starter for longer than 10 seconds at a time. This is not going to be an issue.

The only way the brake light can be on is either one of the brake light switches is activated or someone screwed the wiring in the headset. This battery setup has got zero to do with the brake light being one.

Are you serious? If you had seen his other posts.....you'd see that the rear wiring was destroyed when he got it. If he's dumb enough to install this battery, do you honestly think he hooked up the tail light correctly?

Your knowledge and understanding of electricity is lacking at best. Don't talk about things you know nothing. And yes you advise about the battery hook up was BS!

The brake light comes on as soon as the key is put to the "on" position.

The brake light circuit is energized most likely by switch at lever or plugged into the wrong connector .......check it out.......
