honda 1983 aero nb50

Post by kimarky »

Hi Guys
I'm a newbie so go easy on me. I have a 1986 and a 1983 honda nb 50 aero both with under 2000 actual miles and mint condition.

My 1983 has developed a shimmy in the front wheel.
I lifted the front wheel off the ground, and I dont feel any play in the bearing.

Im not sure where to start wheel bearing the fork or the shocks

any ideas?

Thanks

Bearings and check the wheel for straightness.

I had a similiar issue on my 84' NB50.

My font axle bolt was loose. New bearings can never hurt though.

Greetings:

Honda Wheel bearings tend to last a long time. If yours are gone, they're gone, but most of the front-end shimmy issues I've seen were due to steering head slop. It's a PITA to disassemble the speedo/handlebar cowls, but checking/correcting that might be more productive than hammering out perfectly good wheel bearings. Also be aware that sometimes front-end shimmy is caused by problems out back.

Have you run into anything? The rim could be slightly bent.

I've also over filled a tire and the bead never really seated against the rim and caused a wobble.

Or if it sat a long time you might have a flat spot on the rubber itself

I've had all of these problems over the years with my projects.
