NSR vs. YSR

Post by motormike »

......... :hi: ....this post is an open discussion on the pros and cons of both Honda and Yamaha mini-racers.......convince me why I shouldn't go buy a YSR down at the scooter shop which has a fresh Calamari built engine................. :coolcruise: .............

the nsr 50 is a way better bike. it came with adjustable suspension and made more power than a ysr. but if you plan on modding the ysr. you can buy ohlins or fox full adjustable rear shock. there is also revalving and different spring rates you can do to the front.
Nothing like getting stroked!

....pros of the YSR:

Tons of them out there
Calamari racing parts available
Parts somewhat inexpensive
Endless mods
Lots of FORUMS to talk about YSRs!

...cons

Air cooled
Smaller bike
5 speed as opposed to 6 speeds (NSR)
Needs an engine swap to "really" go fast (over 100 mph)
Drum brake rear

The NSR

Pros:

It's a Honda
Water cooling / 6 speeds
Can be very fast w'out motor swap
Disk brakes
Suspension can be tuned for anyone (RJP Racing)
Bulletproof engine
It's a Honda

...cons

Expensive
Parts getting hard to find
Parts are expensive
2004 version not street legal
2004 version "bump" start only
There are no real forums!! :(
Expensive

-Mike, if the price is right... The YSR can be a really fun bike too! Ive ridden quite a few YSR's in the past; they get up and go! If I had a YSR, I would DEFINITELY have to add a liquid cooled YZ80 or YZ125 engine. That would also make it a 6 speed!

Most definitely let us know what you choose! How's the price? :peace:

Later man, jon

Later man, GREAT discussion!!

I like the Honda because it doesn't look as much as a clown bike to me. The yamaha's proportions are too squashed looking.

Huh... The YSR looks nice, Mike. I was *hoping* for a "stocker" looking bike with factory scheme, but still nice. (I tend to always prefer "factory" color schemes; no "custom" for me)

I noticed the pipe. I'm thinking that it has the stock pipe on it; definitely not a Calamari, possibly a DG.

** one thing to factor in when considering a YSR: I have read that 1 side of the crank on a YSR (I'm thinking left mag side) is prone to breaking. **

-still an EASY fix; cranks are still available. If calamari built the motor, then it's not an issue. Their speciality is YSR crank balancing...

Hmmm... I like the YSR though. -I'm a real sucker for a bike waiting for a home, though. Sh*t, it doesnt matter what it is... If it's a bike patiently waiting for a home, I want to take it home with me, then give it some love and attention.

Throw another 1 or 1/2 on the Yamaha's side. It looks nice, and if it was built by Calamari, then it's motor is primo... Their mechanic Jonathan is a 2 stroke whiz...

-thanks for sharing- jon
