Lets Compare MPG

Post by SpreeGuy 123 »

I'd like to get an idea of what kind of MPGs you guys get.

I keep an extensive spread sheet with every fill-up and mile my scooter has had from day one. On my current scooter I am averaging ~71.0 mpg on 2,000 miles over 2 years. Or around 33 miles per tank of gas. And I don't run it dry, usually put ~0.450 gallons in each fill up. I notice about a 5 mpg swing between the summer and winter months. I also commute about 6 miles a day, and I would say 85% of that commute is spent WOT, ~25+ MPH.

I keep reading about all these people getting 100-125 mpg, but I have yet to see those numbers! I can say that if I baby the throttle and keep it under 25 I see a dramatic increase in MPG's. But being the man that I am I can't find myself to not push my scoot scoot hard and fast!

So if you guys can so kindly do so, please let me know.....
1. What you are riding?
2. How many miles you ride a day?
3. What your mpg rate is?
4. How do you ride, fast and WOT or slow and sissy style.
5. How many miles you get on a tank of gas, and how big your gas tank is?
6. Are you guesstimating or do you calculate it down to the nearest 1/10th of a mile and 1/1000th of a gallon?

Exciting to see what you guys got!

I don't keep regular records now but 70mpg is what my stock sb50p did with WOT. The ruck got a true 100. 110 if it was babied. The c3 was always disappointing at 93-99mpg. It never broke 100. The nh125 averaged 62 with WOT off every light and stop sign.

The sb50p did break 80mpg once when it was babied on flat land cruising. No stop and go but a constant 23-26mph (speedo indicated).

My 86 spree is very similar to yours. I have documented an average of 30-35 miles per tank. Usually always at WOT unless cruising the neighborhood.

Greetings:

Warmup uses fuel without adding miles to the clock.
Cold weather always decreases MPG. Cold lubricants take more energy to move.
Lots of short trips take more fuel than one long one.
High cruising RPM hurts mileage more than just about anything. Modded engines often rev higher.
I'd be surprised if Flash 3.26 got better than 35 MPG in summer, less in winter. I fill from a premix tank and too lazy to measure, so I may never know. Maybe it's better that way... :)

Elite 80, 1987, with approx. 2000 original miles, stock everything, was closely tested on a hot day. Trip mileage totaled 102 with fuel consumed equalling .98 gallon=104 mpg.....Note that this Elite 80 tested is equipped with a factory windscreen and was ridden with 90% throttle for 90% of the distance.....I was skeptical about the possibility of attaining over 100 mpg, so this test was monitored as closely as possible with the initial fill and subsequent refill performed at the same pump, in the same position, and to the same level in the tank. I was surprised..... :urban:

Over the last summer my Aero 80 got an average of 79.8 mph, mostly at WOT. Years ago the 1985 Spree actually averaged 100+mpg but most of that was running around parks and to, from the local store, Post Office and the pits at races, so next to no WOT time.

My 87 SE50 can average around 60mpg. Mainly because I get yelled at for letting it run at night to warm up and it uses alot of fuel on the first bit of riding to warm up. During the warmer weather I can achieve 80mpg because it does not need much of a warm up. My bike kills gas compared to the new ones >.<
