Elite 80 fails to accelerate
1997 Elite 80 purchased 2/13/12....one owner, 2,900 miles....last plated in '10....starts and idles fine, but will not accelerate more than 10% of the throttle rotation....suspect the main and pilot are plugged....Inspection and cleaning to begin after court-date 2/15/12....this bike was used strictly in campgrounds by retired owner, R.I.P......original everything, and IMMACULATE condition....probably the closest thing to SHOWROOM that I have ever bought USED....I will share pictures of the bike and carb cleaning as it occurs......

Nothing like a new toy to lessen the pain of a court appearance.
Good luck

Re: Elite 80 fails to accelerate
"showroom condition" makes me salivate...
that seems like the most probable cause, carb junk... or was in gunk?
It would be one of the first things I'd take a look at.
Other suspects could be: plugged exhaust, faulty coil, etc.
I'm sure you'll get it up running soon!
If it's original everything, I'd keep it that way. Nothing like a classic that purrs like it should, looking and sounding like it just came from the showroom.
Keep us updated motormike! would love to see photos!

Good thing your middle name is Walter... This one looks better than the 666 Vegas Speedway find last year...

Re: Elite 80 fails to accelerate
......I rather like the tastefullness of the script font...and the nephew of the deceased Walter was a very pleasant and respectful young man....the immediate "feel" about the sticker was one of respect toward the previous owner....and not to mention, my son has a Boston terrier pup named Walter and I have been fond of the name for a minute....the 66SIX elite saga is not yet over according to 6....still in some impound lot.....thanx for the flowers sr.chief., and on Valentine's Day..............

Re: Elite 80 fails to accelerate
This CV carb is just like the PA carbs on the 50cc scooters, a little dirt and they just don't function anymore. I know a few mods that can improve performance on these carbs. Both my quads sport these things.

Re: Elite 80 fails to accelerate
The easiest is to mod the slide. The slide in the CV carb is controlled by vacuum and not the throttle cable, which runs the throttle valve. To supply the vacuum to the vacuum chamber there is a small hole in the slide. If you drill that hole slightly larger the slide opens faster. Try 20 to 30% larger. This is the easiest. Yo can also lighten the spring behind the diaphragm, but I have never seen doing both work. Slide opens to fast causing a bogging condition.
Then there is always the Dial-a-jet. It really help low end throttle response.
