carb question

Post by odinxxix »

are there any rubber seals or anything that would prevent soaking over night in a carb dip in both the spree and elite(sa50) carbs?

There are small o-rings on some carbs for the idle and mixture screws. If present, there is usually a washer which the spring presses against the o-ring. The washer hides the o-ring, then falls out and gets lost right before assembly  :P

Hmm, interesting question and time we got to 'know'...

Sprees, Gyros, and at least the '87 Aero have no O-Rings. Will complete checking out AF05's and document.

94-up SA50's do on both screws. Parts diagram shows Idle speed has an o-ring, but no washer, mixture has a washer and o-ring :!:

Not a gasket. It is a custom shaped o-ring seal.

Thanks!

Not a lot of difference. AF16 version float valve seat is non-replaceable, pilot is a press fit same as earlier PA's. Main jet looks pretty much the same. The PB carb like the Aero 80 has screw in pilots in #35, 40, 42, 45, 48. It would take an adapter plate like Bear's to get the PB to fit.

Here's some externally viewable:

1) Captive steel nut on mounting ears - less stripped threads
2) Insert (plastic I think) for the Bystarter air valve to slide
3) Venturi got more squared off at the top vs early Sprees (which are oval). This is not strictly an AF16 PA carb feature. Later Sprees also got the shape change...
