Seller does not know much about the elite as its his girl friends.
1) He says she's gone over 30mph, should that be enough to know it has the DIO engine and a cvt?
2) Opinion: Do you think the color looks like a 'girls bike'?

zx50 it looks like it has a aftermarket technigas exhaust too. Also that looks like an 87 se50 elite. While I love Honda I have a soft spot for the kymco zx fever :D

I think it is an '87 se50p. CVT: yes. Dio: no. It uses the variated af05.

I think the color is great. Black looks good on anything. The purple (not the official color name) loudly represents the late 80s. The zx50 does have the dio knockoff. Other than the pipe, are there any mods?

No, I believe he said the pipe was the only mod.

How do the two compare performance wise?

It seems the elite is physically much smaller.

The elite is smaller.

Drive them both and then buy the ZX....
(the only way you will buy the elite (IMO) is if it's been upgraded, or you are petite in statue (zx seat height...)

PS the elite is rather steep in price and the Kymco about right...

You would be a fool to pick a 1987 over the 2005.

Take away the 2005 and 1987... I'd still buy the lighter, handsome, reliable, retro, rare and better :imo: bike. ... Guess I'm a sucker for a87 and 89..

But I look a the kymco... Looks like it rides like a caddy... Dunno I would ride both and check for leaks and check compression etc and I would buy the bike with less work to do ...
Just 87 and 89 I dunno man.... Something about em... I guess I grew up with so many of them it's a lost love found or something
Good luck on making a decision ... It's a tough one

Reasons not to by the 87....
mess up the rear plastics and try to find replacements...
wanna upgrade it to a dio then you have to buy a dio....
if you keep the af05 its a good motor but dio has more upgrades....
and finally if you want a bike that rides well the bigger bikes alway win...

(P.S. not an 87 fan boy)

The kymco for sure.

more upgrade parts for it and the 12" tires ride very smooth.

the 1987 is overpriced and has limited engine upgrades.

87 honda with a dio transplant -vs- stock kymco zx50

Hard decision... but still have to go with the kymco.......,more comfy ride, larger gas tank, better brakes, more storage, and a speedo that reads over 35mph.
