Would it be possible to beef up an elite or sprees suspension enough to survive a ramp to dirt jump?
Along with my racing career im interested in building a moped that can be soared through the air much like motocross bikes.
Call me crazy but im landing the first moped backflip this summer
Planning out the 12 hour drive to the Pastrana compound in maryland now

If you did beef the suspension the frame would just buckle.

...or shear a shocker mount. Or tear welds. Or mash rims. Either way a light weight scooter made for street use will suffer a structural failure one way or another, and will not be fun to experience as a rider or a spectator. When you see frames on dirt bikes with cracks in them and they're designed for off road use, can you imagine standing on the floor of a scooter and hitting the ground from a couple of feet of air? Ugly...

Beefed suspension or not, the spree/sb50 frames will bend on bigger jumps. The wheels, bars, engine mount will also bend.

I think with enough reinforcement its possible, maybe a custom frame with stronger mounts and what not would survive it.

Would that still be considered a moped/scooter?

it should, remake the exact same frame just a lot stronger, you could even put the plastics back on it

dirt bikes have swing arms.
the scooter engine/trans
is the swing arm.
By the time you converted it to handle landing a jump without breaking, it would not resemble a scooter anymore.

Buy a set of Honda Spree body panels and
hot glue them onto a Suzuki DRZ400 bike (or similar) and you're set.
Otherwise, this should not be done.

The suspension can hadle if you swap dirt bike ones on. The engine case won't. Those thise break in half just jumping off sidewalks. The frame might but that's after adding another 50lbs of metal to it maybe more then you might as well back flip a 50cc dirt bike instead
