sounds to like your petcock is not shutting off. does it flood the floor when it sits?

The only way the bad petcock would cause fuel on the floor or flood the engine is if the needle and seat in the carb was also bad.

Then there is nothing wrong with the petcock. The needle and seat in the carb is bad.

Oh and the service manual so you can find this stuff out on your own.

Hm-m-m, when you say "flooding out", what exactly is happening - fuel flowing out onto the ground - only when starting, fuel flooding the crankcase?

A bad petcock means the fuel flows whether or not there is vacuum (engine cranking or running) - if the valve seat and valve needle are in good shape this may go un-noticed because it will stop the flow. This is one of the reasons most folks like clear fuel lines.

A bad valve seat or needle can usually be remedied by cleaning - the toothpaste method using a q-tip works wonders. These are the typical culprits if fuel is flowing out the carb overflow tube onto the ground.

If the engine is getting flooded, what is the symptom you are experiencing? How does the plug look?

the plug is saoked and the bottom end is filled with gas so i had to turn it on its side to drain the gas, could it be the reeds, becaquse the carb came off a runnning spree

No, the reeds can never cause this, extra fuel is entering the system either thru the carb or the petcock thru the vacuum line.

Fuel has to come from somewhere. Bear is right petcock is likley blame by leaking fuel down the vacum line pull both lines off of the carb and see how much fuel comes out of either line. If there is no vacum on the vacum line no fuel should flow out of the petcock if its still good. Fuel comming out of the vacum line would bypass the carb obviously.
