Honda Spree Mis-Titled?

So I bought my Spree, I gotta say, it's a blast to cruise around in, but I've got a few questions about the title.

As far as I know, Sprees were not made back in 1981, but on the title I recieved from the seller it says It's a 1981 Honda...

I'm unable to ID it either because I can't find the VIN on the moped, another problem is that there's only a 14 digit VIN on the title, is that normal?

As far as the actual cert goes, it looks legit. Is this going to be fine at the DMV?

Someone likely gave you a title to another bike. If you can't find the vin it is on the down tube behind the front fender.

X2, but a title screw up is possible. When I received an Illinois title with an incorrect VIN, I just had to bring the bike down to the office for an official to inspect the VIN. They didn't check any of the safety equipment.

What I don't get is how they got 1981 out of this.. on the plate it says it was manufactured 9/85, so that's quite a bit of a difference. As long as I play stupid, it shouldn't be a problem, should it? The VIN is correct.

So this moped should be an '85, right?

I highly doubt that the DMV made an error in this case. The seller just found a random title and gave it to the buyer and he foolishly didn't double check before purchase. Now you have a Honda Spree pitbike! :2thumbs:

The OP does state the vin is correct, assuming he means on the scoot and title.

What you might be able to do is go to the DMV on a rainy day or something (so you're not wasting time when you could be doing something fun outside, lol) and tell someone that you were given a scooter without a title and you'd like to go about acquiring one. As long as it's not listed as stolen, you'll be okay. If you're lucky, they'll throw some paperwork your way and you'll have a title in the mail in a few weeks. That would probably be better than mis-titling it.
