EDIT : I found it! viewtopic.php?f=11&t=681
Service manual and not shop manual for the research. :bowrofl:

Merci l'ami! :peace:

My laptop broke down and I lost a lot of informations and data.
If I'm not mistaken, I recall downloading the shop manual from a link here.
I did a research with "shop manual Aero" and didn't find it.

Would someone have a link to it please?

I had a problem last week with "TT".
Was driving and had a sort of a start of seizing engine. Quickly stopped and it idled ok??? Of course oil level in tank ok.
Drove home and had a strange noise becoming more and more important (airbox off or whatever???).
On inspecting it at home, I found out my air pipe was unscrewed!
The carb was moving around. How did this thing manage to ride like that, I don't know.
Maybe the sucking of the engine kept the carb pipe "tight"?
The spark plug was too white too (too much air/too lean).
I hope I haven't * up the cylinder.

EDIT : It was 9.0 and not 9.5, but...read my following post for the values. :worship:
Measured the compression, engine cold, and found 9.5 kPa. :?:

Anyways, took everything off, cleaned, tightened.
I took on the occasion to take the air cover off the engine and fully clean under. Wasn't really dirty...but the intake must have been loosening up for some time as it was oily/dirt around there when I cleaned up the bike before reassembling after the repair/accident.
Taking off the air shroud, the carb and intake pipe allowed for a better cleaning.

Putting back the carb on the inlet, the other thread (I already had an Helicoil put in on the left hand side of the carb flange) died...
Had to take it to the bike shop to have another Helicoil put in. The guy didn't charge me anything (he did the repair job after the accident), I took the "croissants" to his shop and we had breakfast together (the shop was supposed to be closed exceptionnaly on last saturday).

It drives ok and idles well just as before. :|

I did a shooting with some pictures I'll post tomorrow.

Greetings:

Normally I deal only in wholesome American Pounds Per Square Inch, but for you my friend I make an exception: 9.5 kPa = 1.37psi. Methinks there's something wrong with your compression gauge...
Yeah, the vacuum of the engine probably allowed you to run. I bet it hiccupped every time you hit a bump though, right? Use a torque wrench set at maybe 4 Newton-Meters or fingertip force on those carb flange screws; they're shockingly easy to strip! Just enough to squeeze down the O-rings and a tiny bit more is all you need. It probably came loose because the threads were buggered when you (or your shop) last assembled it. If your mechanic didn't know, it's very likely he did it, so nice that he didn't charge for the Heli-Coil.

Just took a glance at the gauge...it is kPa x 100 that I should have read.
So, that is 900 Kpa for a 9.0 reading.
Mo' betta?

Picture when I got TT at 875 kms on the clock (it had been sitting under a blanket since 1986...sticky rings or not run in?) :
Image

Picture now at 7800 kms :
Image

I had measured at 4200 kms : 950 kPa at that moment.
The shop manual says those values are ok.
Too much compression : carbon build up.
Too low : used engine.

I have an endoscopic camera and checked the inside by the spark plug hole : I couldn't see any scratchs, but the image isn't terrific and there is virtually no carbon deposit on the head of the piston.
No more than a 4 stroke.
Been using fully synthetic oil since I bought it.

It's the intake pipe's screws which were loose. Maybe vibrations and time?
I put some "light power" Loctite so as to be able to tighten without forcing to break threads on the casing and without the bolts to be able to unscrew again.
All the assembly was moving around. :surprise: I suppose the airbox being fixed on the casing, it limited the fact that the intake/carb could move around. But it sure was moving! :nervous:
The carb's thread got ruined when I put the carb back in and screwed it.
Berfore that, everything was ok. The carb wasn't getting loose.
The mechanic didn't touch the engine or fiddle at it.
No mechanic since I've got the scoot has touched it.
It's my fault : overtightning (and bad aluminium too I think).

The bike didn't hiccup or miss a beat. It needed to be accelerated a bit to start up (never did before) and had some more noise than usual (just as if you were riding without the air box).

Curiously, it doesn't seem to meet like it could??? What do you think?

The levers were scratched. The mechanic used a Dremel to hide them as well as possible.

That's all folks!
Back on the road for rides and rides (I hope) :

It was already nice when I got it. I must admit that I drive it even more carefully now that it's new...I'm scared to crash it!

Being scared to crash is no good being too * saying you will never crash is always no good either. The best way to look at it is if you ride and take your time and always check your corners and watch your surroundings if you crash you crash nothing you can do about it. Best of luck and ride safe

:2thumbs:

I'm buying some vintage looking tires while I can still find them. And mine are the original 30 years old ones too...cracked and getting used on the rear.

They have a special deal on this website : http://www.allopneus.com/find?activite= ... =&saison=e

I can get the 2 Michelin S83 for 29Ôé¼ delivered to my door. That's a bargain!

I'm wondering on choosing the Michelin S83, the Continental Classic or the Continental K62.
Going to Google to see if I find out who's best.

EDIT : after some reading, the Michelin are good tires, but the Conti Classic looks better and sort of similar to the original Dunlops I have (mainly on the edge).
And they aren't too bad either.
They surely cannot be "worse" than old and dried tires like mine.

So order made for Conti Classics.

A guy contacted me on a french forum of bikes because he saw my Vision (Aero's name here in France) last year. He was asking if I would sell it. He found me while searching Google images with Vision Honda.
I told him I wasn't selling.
He wanted a black one like mine because he used to have one as a kid.

So he found another one this month after all.
1986, white, 5000 kilometers and very nice state.
He sent me 2 pictures :

These pictures are from the seller's ad. He do some nicer ones later.

It is something very scarce to see people interested in these plastic scoots here...we're two now!
Nobody seems to care about this, they only live for Vespas, Lambrettas etc...

How did I finish 2016?
By parking my scoot at the mall. Some stupid kids took it as a target and threw stones at it. The paint job on the front and mud guard has to be redone...
Hopefully no lights were broken. Just marks from the rocks on the fairing.
Well, have to take everything apart again...the kids parents insurance is paying for this. Expected invoice is around 300Ôé¼.
The paint shop will be able to redo the job without having to redo the stickers.

I'm also having carb problems. The idle isn't stable, sometimes it is too high then too low and cuts the engine.
Sometimes it is ok and when I take off, it almost cuts out if I don't rev it a bit first.

I took it apart and ultrasonic cleaned it (again...), but there wasn't much to be seen inside.
The o-rings on the carb flange seemed a bit flimsy. I'll change them again.
I'll also change the choke starter o-ring.
I changed the 2 paper gaskets on the inlet.
I hope it's not the automatic starter that is on the go again...

Almost 9000 kilometers on the clock now.

I don't let any of my scoots out of my sight for more than a minute or two. I even feel nervous leaving it outside while running into a gas station. Its just too easy to pick one up and toss it into the back of a truck and its gone forever. Or even someone stealing my rear rack or glovebox, etc...No WAY Im parking at the Mall around here....even if its got a bike lock on it.
I need to find some new haters...the ones I have are starting to like me.
